After 2 years working hard and touring the world, Peggy Sue are pleased to announce details of their upcoming new album and reveal first single ‘Idle’.

The London-based trio’s third full length ‘Choir of Echoes’ will be released on January 27th 2014 through Wichita Recordings.

To celebrate this release, the band will play an intimate show at St Pancras Church in London on Monday 27th January. Tickets are priced £10 and are on general sale HERE

First single ‘Idle’ was described today by The Guardian as “gospel-tinged… mixing the band's sweet melodies with a constant rumble of guitars and pounding drums.” In the band’s words:

"Idle is about being unemployed and incurably thoughtful. The opening and closing parts are a kind of troubled gospel song - a prayer for purpose in the knowledge that the purpose will probably not be a 'good' one.

It's about impatience and distractions and thinking about things too much. And of course it's about a boy."

Peggy Sue are far from your average post folk band; they carefully craft together beautiful harmonies that glide over a sea of delicate guitars and piercing drums to create a coming together of sounds whose power is unlike any other. The songs possess an immense intricacy in their layers and details ensuring the listeners respond to their cinematic quality.

It would be wrong to assume that in the time since their previous release, ‘Acrobats’ in 2011, the band have been twiddling their thumbs in their London-hometown. Instead, they have spent a vast array of time on the road, including touring North America twice (with a month long run with labelmates, First Aid Kit) and travelling all over Europe as support on tours of Jack WhiteWild Flag and Joan As Policewoman. Not only this, but they recorded and self-released an album of covers, ‘Peggy Sue Play The Songs Of Scorpio Rising’, (inspired by the soundtrack of the legendary cult movie) and, of course, played numerous headline shows of their own and appeared on many a festival bill, including a spell-binding, recent appearance on the main stage at the Green Man Festival.

Produced at the legendary Rockfield Studio in South Wales by Jimmy Robertson (the man who made the “…Scorpio Rising" collection), and mixed by John Askew (who also worked with the band on their debut full-length, ‘Fossils and Other Phantoms’) the new Peggy Sue album will be released early next year, on January 27th.

"’Choir of Echoes’ is an album about singing. About losing your voice and finding it again” they explain. “Voices keeping each other company and voices competing for space. The call and response of the kindest and the cruelest words. Choruses. Duets. Whispers and shouts."

If you’ve ever wondered “Peggy Who?”, then here’s your answer. The past two years have allowed the band time to experience a vast array of new sights and sounds, which have translated wonderfully into their new work. Choir of Echoes’ sees Peggy Sue come back around on their best form to date, and provides an emotional venture into a realm of sensibility that this band have to offer.
