Introducing Belfast bred Ed Zealous....
It seems that Belfast has proven to be the perfect breeding ground for the weird and wonderful of late, not least for Ed Zealous whose signature sound is a high-octane mash-up of casios, heavy kick drums and sizzling synths. Taking influence from the likes of seminal legends David Bowie, Talking Heads and Pulp alongside contemporaries such as A-Trak, Boys Noize and TV On The Radio, the band create their own vision of indie infused electro.
The band kicked off 2013 by opening for friends Two Door Cinema Club at their homecoming show in Belfast, which they followed with the release of their debut single. Medicines juxtaposed themes of paranoia, fear and moving on with scuzzy electronics and big pop hooks that garnered frequent airplay from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and Seattle’s KEXP amongst others.
Wired - their highly anticipated forthcoming debut album, is an intense 45 minute assault recorded in Belfast’s Start Together studios & mixed by producer Eliot James, whose extensive body of work includes collaborations with Bloc Party, Noah and The Whale and Does It Offend You, Yeah?. If summer festival shows are anything to go by expect a future littered with wired dancefloor fillers smothered in sizzling electronics with the thumping heartbeat of a heavy kick drum. Championed by Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol as “a slice of awesome electro that would fizz in your mouth if you took a bite.”
“..The Ed Zealous album delivers. It’s up there with the best debut records of the last 5 years. If you don’t love it then we can no longer be friends...” Phil Taggart - BBC Radio 1
“...Medicines is one of those tracks you want to play on the radio all the time - on a loop if possible! Ed Zealous have that unique, fizzy sound that would get any broadcaster in a lather, but you also know it’s catchy enough that you imagine listeners turning up the volume...” Rigsy - BBC ATL
“ ...Is it indie-rock? Is it electro-pop? Either way, it’s high energy and engaging from start to finish... ” Acid Stag
“...There were high hopes for this track and they’ve certainly been met. Simply, a ridiculously cool synth slice and dice.” The Playlist
“ ...Latest single ‘Medicines’ is so rammed full of energy that it could probably step in should the national grid fail any time soon...” Sound of Confusion
“...Belfast band Ed Zealous prove to be the surprise act of the weekend, playing an array of exceptionally catchy, high-octane songs. The band ooze confidence onstage, and they certainly have the tunes to match the swagger...” Golden Plec
“...an edgy slice of fuzzy electro pop bounding about on jittery paranoid rhythms, and a singer on cheap speed that doesn’t come up for air...” DMC World
