Oxfam are delighted to announce the first venue’s line-up for the Oxjam Brixton takeover – a hard-to-rival selection of highly-respected, party starting DJs, all of whom have links to the area, confirmed to work the Prince of Wales sound system hard on Saturday October 19th.

The Oxjam Brixton takeover is a multi-venue event in Brixton that takes place on Saturday October 19th. More information on the other participating venues and performers will be announced over the coming weeks. Expect some of Brixton’s best clubs, bars and pubs to be on board, playing host to well-known and much-loved bands/artists/DJs, a wealth of up-and-coming talent, plus food, drink and other festival-related jollity.

In a scene saturated with DJs and producers, Cooly G stands out as someone occupying her own  unique musical headspace, making music in a league all of her own. Her inimitable production and vocal style melds elements of bass, UK funky, garage, deep house and cosmic, high tech soul into a seductive whole.

Cooly is synonymous with the Hyperdub label, having released several huge underground anthems plus her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Playin’ Me’ on the imprint.

Cooly also releases on her own Dub Organiser imprint and Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood recordings, has turned out killer remixes for The Knife, King Midas Sound, and has toured the states with the XX. Check out Cooly’s amazing Boiler Room mix here.

Severino is one quarter of the much-loved four-man DJ club collective Horse Meat Disco - leaders in the disco field with packed residencies in London’s Vauxhall, New York, Berlin and Paris, plus shows in America and the rest of the world.

Inspired by the music and inclusive ethos of New York's heady club scene in the 80s & 90s, the foursome have garnered a unique reputation for throwing amazing parties with unmatchable sets, either together or as solo emissaries, as with this Oxjam party.

The Horse Meat sound takes in dancefloor movers from classic to cosmic to deep disco, italo, punk funk, house, even techno, electric bangers and just plain old rare oddities.

The fashion world has certainly embraced the gang, having been enlisted to DJ for brands as diverse as Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Lanvin, Acne and Diesel.

The HMD boys have three successful compilation albums out on Strut / K7! Records, and you can hear Severino’s smoking hot remixes of Funky Fat’s ‘Jealousy’ here and Alison Moyet’s  ‘Changeling’ here.

The term ‘super producer’ suits no-one more than former Killing Joke bassist Youth - the man behind Blue Pearl’s ultra classic 'Naked In the Rain' - as well as a stream of seminal post punk/disco/dub productions (with collaborators including Adrian Sherwood). Youth has produced records for Duran Duran, Paul McCartney, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Yazoo, Depeche Mode and Edwyn Collins (the classic worldwide smash Girl Like You). For an example of genius Youth action, here’s Killing Joke’s hi-nrg-post punk classic 'Almost Red' .

My Panda Shall Fly’s Deep technicolor electronics and post 2-step recalls elements of Boards Of Canada, Carl Craig and Falty DL. His debut EP saw incredible support from the likes of Pitchfork, Dazed Digital, Clash Magazine, XLR8R, The Fader, The Independent, and Dummy.

Since 2012, in between appearances on Rinse FM and various festivals like BBC Hackney Weekender, Outlook & Glade, My Panda Shall Fly has put out a collaborative 12” vinyl release with Benjamin Jackson on the Five Easy Pieces record label titled ‘Let's Vibrate Together’ which sold out in Rough Trade Records & Boomkat in its first run. There was also a dark dancefloor-orientated EP with Will Ward on XVI Records - which gained great support from Rob Da Bank (BBC Radio 1) amongst others, plus, his track 'Kandy' was featured on Resonance FM DJ Rita Maia’s lauded compilation ‘Sine Of The Times’.

Since their debut in 2006, the Portuguese Peckham residents Photonz have been creating their own style of roots-inspired house & techno with a psychedelic influence and have gained support from Optimo, Ivan Smagghe and Ewan Pearson, with releases on feted labels including Andy Blake’s Dissident, Dirty Sound System & Pilooski’s Dirty.

They run their own label One Eyed Jacks and have also released on Get The Curse, Snuff Trax and Don’t Be Afraid. Plus, their EP ‘Hurt Me Hurt Me’ on Unknown To The Unknown won a massive 10/10 review in DJ Mag.

Their latest single ‘1551’ was released on Unknown To The Unknown and was played by Jackmaster on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show. It’s been described as “anti illuminati egyptian trance house” and has been supported by Axel Boman, Daniel Avery, Huxley and Justin Robertson. Their remix for Bohemian Groove on Throne Of Blood was also Beatport’s Track Of The Day. They recently recorded an inspirational guest mix for Rita Maia’s Resonance FM show which you can enjoy here.

As anyone lucky enough to have attended the To The Bone and Beyond The Clouds Parties that he co-promotes, local house music hero Charlie Bennett has gained a sterling reputation as an impeccable selector with an deft knack for delivering kinetic, bumping sets packed with vintage and brand new house and garage gems, not to mention forays into African grooves and beyond. All of Charlie’s mixes are well worth seeking out; here are two gems on Bleep43 and Infinite State Machine.

As one half of the UKG deejay and production duo Mistamen, Mella Dee’s solo sound has evolved out of a true passion for all things garage and a perpetual dedication to hip hop, combined with a love for house music and heavy influence from the darkness of UK funky. Together, these elements have enabled Mella Dee to develop a unique approach to the fusion of these sounds, into one rugged soundscape that is simultaneously house and garage.

These foundations enabled the ambitious Mella to secure deejay sets at some of the UK’s most highly respected clubs including as Fabric, Sub Club, XOYO, Cable, Dogma and Mint Club in addition to the Outlook, Tramlines and Parklife Festivals.

A radio enthusiast since her student days, Debonair has gained a loyal following by harnessing a talent for juxtaposing genres, eras and textures on her fortnightly NTS radio show.

Formerly Head of Radio at the station, she is now more likely to be found in the booth, bringing new wave, vintage electronica and raw techno to the dancefloor during one of her London residencies (The Star of Kings, Squares Electronic Night), or club sets (recent gigs include Fabric and The Nest).

A South London lover, she highlighted the musical excellence of the area with her ‘Brixton Allstars’ series on Resonance FM - broadcasting the viewpoints and experiences of local legends such as Linton Kwesi Johnson and Loefah (DMZ). Catch her radio show live on alternate Tuesday evenings, 7-8pm on NTS Radio.

MC/vocalist, producer and DJ, Rob B is one half of the chart topping, funk heavy UK hip hop originators Stereo MCs. They have released seven albums, including the worldwide mega smash and double Brit award winner ‘Connected’ – one of the most archetypal and influential longplayers of its time.

The band’s acclaimed to 20 cult classic album ‘Deep Down and Dirty’ was recorded at their own studio, on the notorious ‘Front Line’ in Brixton – just a stones-throw from the Prince Of Wales.

Stereo MCs have remixed, produced  or collaborated with everyone from the Jungle Brothers, U2 to Madonna, and have worked with the likes of Deekline and Wizard plus Afrika Baby Bam of the Jungle Brothers

Evolving from Stereo MCs cult classic mix for DJ Kicks, Rob’s DJ sets now take in bass heavy club bangers adorned by the crowd hyping skills of MC Fivealive.

The events take place all across the UK on one weekend in October and are organized by volunteers with a focus on local, grassroots music. This year the 60 Takeover gigs will aim to raise a total of £250,000+.

In total the festival has generated over 4000 pieces of media coverage, the majority of which has been about local volunteers and events.
