To say 2013 has been a breakthrough year for the Brighton based 5 piece would be an understatement. The highlight so far  has to be their critically acclaimed performances at Secret Garden Party and Cambridge Folk Festival, the latter of which was witnessed by Radio 2’s Dermot O’Leary who promptly invited the band to play live on his show the next day. The year promises to end on a high as the band support The Villagers this autumn as well as a first appearance at Musicport 2013.

The early 2013 release of Solitary Thinker saw the band gain radio support in high places from the likes of Q Radio and BBC Introducing. The bands home city continued their support with the local newspaper running a week long feature claiming  the band to be “Brighton’s best kept secret.” Huffington Post earmarked the band as a one to watch act featuring them alongside none other than David Bowie. The video to the single, directed by award winning animator Chloe Rodham (E4/Redbull), was picked up nationally byBurtons TV and the Sub TV student TV network around the UK, delivering the video to an audience of over 1 million.

Following in the tradition of classic song writing partnerships, Common Tongues were formed by childhood friends Tom Anderson and Oli Hinkins.  They have since augmented their sound with soaring violins, driving rhythms and interweaving guitars, whilst their passion for experimentation and grand orchestration means you will find nothing common about Common Tongues.

The band racked up festival appearances in the UK and Europe including Bestival, Hop Farm, The Great Escape, Secret Garden Party,Liverpool Sound City, London Folkfest, Cornbury, Playgroup, Focus Wales, Lubstock and Tonefest alongside support slots with Beth Jeans Houghton, Michelle Stodart , Juan Zelada, Alice Gold and a German tour with Larkin Poe.
