A Gilded Palace/The Sky Is Falling In By Black International 7"/Cassette/Download from 19th July

Previously described as the result of cheap Fender guitars, nasty red wine and not enough daylight, Edinburgh duo Black International (guitarist Stewart Allan and drummer Craig Peebles) are a living lesson in two-man destruction, likely born out of frustration of being stifled in the dark, damp throes of the capital.

“One could say we approach our music like we’d approach a piece of artwork,” says Allan. “I naturally restrict myself in some ways to get the most expression I can using a limited palette and everything is filtered through a fairly strict aesthetic, although that obviously evolves over time. Craig approaches things in a different way; he likes to splatter paint all over the canvas!”

Having forged an alliance as school kids and survived a few messy band breakups, Black International have spent their relatively short time together blowing up basements all over the shop and are now poised to make a sizeable impact with the release of their double A-side earworm, A Gilded Palace/The Sky is Falling on Electric Company

But as much as we predict these to fly off the metaphorical shelves, Black International are more interested in paying off creative dividends as Allan attests: “We’re never going to make a living out of it, so it really is just about what we create. Most musicians want to find an audience for what they produce, and I suppose we’re no different, but we definitely do things on our own terms for better or worse.”
