INTRODUCING LOS ANGELES BASED AUSTRALIAN ARTIST KATIE COLE….

I'd like to introduce you to a Los Angeles based Australian artist called Katie Cole who has worked with the likes of Kris Kristofferson & Glen Campbell, performed at SXSW & Sundance and has been play listed twice on Radio 2 (quite a resume I'm sure you'll agree).

So, what of her, who is she and when? musicmuso.com caught up with her at a Nik Kershaw appreciation society event in London, we cornered her and asked her some deep and meaningful questions (none of which were actually that deep…..or meaningful), here's how it went….

Name of the band/Act/Artist – Katie Cole

Location (City, Country) –  Los Angeles

Approximate date established – 2008

Fascinating fact about you? I can draw Homer Simpson. I also doodle kangaroos on a lot of things, receipts etc.

Introduce yourself and your music in one sentence…  I’m Aussie singer-songwriter Katie Cole and my music sounds somewhere between Tom Petty and Sheryl Crow with the occasion internet cat picture thrown in.

Last time you used public transport and where did you go?  Probably jetting around London last time I was there. In LA you pretty much take a car everywhere.

Last time you felt proud?  When I finished building my website. I felt smart-ish.

What classic song do you wish you recorded and why?  There are so many. Tough one. Ok picking one, “Wouldn’t it be Good” by Nik Kershaw. Probably up a few keys. I just want to wear that tv suit.. you know what I’m talking about. And all those shoulder pads. I feel like i missed out!!!

Last movie you saw?  The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug. I liked it better than the first Hobbit installment.

Last book you read?  I’m getting lazy, my go to book when I travel is re-reading “Travels with Charley’ by Steinbeck… but i just got an interesting book called “Cocaina” about the trade. I’m due to read something of substance soon. Texts don’t count.

What did you dream about last night?  I can’t quite remember. Something about playing a gig near where my Grandmother used to live before she passed. It didn’t really make any sense as it took place in Melbourne, but fans from my LA shows were there. It’s entirely possible I ate too much sugar before sleeping.

Last time you cried?  Probably a week ago. I’m a girl, I don’t need too many reasons or explanations. Don’t judge me, just pass the ice cream!! :)

Biggest musical influence?  The Beatles, overall for their musical brilliance and songwriting. But everyone says that. Boring. Maybe I should say Milli Vanilli. I said “maybe". haha.

Best gig you've ever played?  I don’t know if that’s for me to decide. That’s for the audience right?. My last EP release show was great in LA was really good. I also really enjoyed some acoustic shows I did in Denver, Colorado.

Best band/artist of 2013?  It was really Lorde’s year. There has been some really great music this year.

Biggest act you’ve ever played with?  Glen Campbell. Hands down. It was an incredible and humbling experience. Living legend. I also sang all the female vocals on his last album. Crazy right!!

Last album/record you bought?  The new Haim record. It’s really good. Uptempo songs, and fun production and great melodies. Unexpectedly great.

Last time you had a fight?  I fight with myself all the time coz I’m a stubborn cow. No one ever wins though. Hmm I’m not sure.

Tell me one of your guilty pleasures?  Frozen yogurt. I love it. You don’t understand. Don’t even try to understand. I think about it way too often, but only have it every few months. There is a place near me, cake batter flavour… you see where I’m going with this. I also REALLY love noodles. So Pho or Ramen. YES!

Best advice you ever received and who was it from?  "Trust in god, but tie up your donkey” from a therapist I knew. I think it makes me check and double check everything I do.

Largest amount spent in a single purchase?  Probably something music related like bulk CD manufacturing. I know I’m supposed to say some cool like diamond earrings form Tiffany’s… I’m not that fancy though. Maybe I should think about getting one of those metal teeth grills.

She is about to release her new single (We Started a) Fire, you can check the video out below:

Whilst Katie was distracted by a rather good Nik Kershaw look-alike serving up FREE frozen yogurt (I would like to say that here in England we spell 'yogurt' as 'yoghurt' but let's not split hairs), we rolled in the quick-fire questions and let rip….

Coffee of Tea? Tea

Coke or Pepsi? Coke

Mac or PC? Mac

Holidays/Vacations - Beach or Snow? Beach

Carnivore or Vegetarian? Omnivore

CD or Vinyl? CD

Car or Motorbike? Car

Cat or Dog? Cat

Acoustic or Electric? Acoustic

Angelina or Jennifer? Angelina

Fry Up (bacon/sausage/mushrooms/egg/toast etc) or Cereal? Cereal (oatmeal).
