Plymouth based rock cover band ROCKAFELLA owned 2017, we caught them just before the year came to a close....
2017 was a year of changes for the Plymouth based Rock Covers Band. The band have a new lead singer, Mark Chappell, installed alongside Andy Fenner who absolutely shreds his Lead guitar, Steve Flaxton thudding and metronomic on Bass and Matt Epps full of tricks and noise on Drums. Mark has brought a new found energy and friendship to the already energetic Plymouth based four-piece covers band who play storming rock tunes from the 90's through to today, his smile is infectious and he sure can carry a tune. The band were part of the official entertainment at the Plymouth Christmas Lights Switch-on in 2017, which is testament to the quality of their performance.
Some of the bands covered in their ever evolving set include: Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Queens of The Stone Age, Tenacious D, Royal Blood, Beastie Boys, The Strokes, Feeder, The White Stripes, The Subways, Reef, Blur, Radiohead and plenty of other classic and contemporary artists.
What struck me most about Rockafella was that they weren’t simply replaying the work of others, they put on a terrific performance of their own. They don’t come across a group of lads wishing they could live their dream, they are a tight act, performing for the sheer joy of performing and adding their own contribution to the music they love. Their musicianship is excellent, Mark is a charismatic and thoroughly entertaining lead and their performance of Reef’s 'Place your hands' and The White Stripes’ '7 Nation Army' quite honestly rivalled that of the originals for the sheer energy and the manner in which they owned the tunes. Kitty’s was packed that night, the night of the Oktoberfest and everyone was singing and dancing with the band. While they played, it was their performance that captivated the crowd, not the beer.
