99” is a delicious juxtaposition to The Attractions of Youth, as Barns says, “It’s a song about losing touch with your former self and the needless formalisation of fun in our daily lives as we age. I guess I felt like I escaped the usual tropes of adulthood through music. This video is an imagining of life on a different path. And a an insight into my own struggles with identity, and the bizarre ritual of growing up."

Barns Courtney has already experienced more highs and lows than most artists could wish to encounter in an entire lifetime. His is a story of family turmoil, bad record industry deals, homelessness, serendipitous meetings with movie moguls and sheer talent and hard work winning out against the odds.

Speaking about those challenging times and conquering the odds Barns said: “My first single appeared in this Bradley Cooper movie and before I knew it I got this call from my manager while I was slinging laptops at Curry’s and PC World who told me I didn’t have to work there anymore. I was so downtrodden after my experiences that even when I was sat in Virgin Records with a bottle champagne in one hand signing on the dotted line, I just couldn’t speak to anyone. I was so afraid the rug was going to be pulled from under me. It was another two years before I thought it might actually turn out alright”.

Barns’ music has been used all over US and UK TV, as the theme for Rugby League coverage by the BBC, Suits, Teenwolf and most recently on the Netflix series “safe”.

“99” is a throwback; the lyrics and the music combine to send those of a certain generation back to their childhood and these days “we are all ghosts” its the perfect summary of growing up.

Listen to “99” below and make every effort to catch him live before the entire tour sells out.
