BOUDICA RISING: A Celebration of Women in Music

Providing a platform to the under-represented talent of women in the music industry, Boudica Festival returns to Coventry's Herbert Art Gallery over the 5th and 6th October 2018. Showcasing acts such as 'Queen Zee', 'Nova Twins', 'Mich Cota' and 'Let's Eat Grandma', the festival is a rare opportunity to catch some of music's current brightest stars in a two-day event which crosses the genres.

A Saturday of live music at Boudica Festival is preluded by a music documentary double bill, getting you into the swing of things with independent films 'The Ballad of Shirley Collins' and 'Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami'. Friday's documentaries tell the stories of two artists who are as different from one another as they are highly regarded: Shirley Collins being the legendary traditional songstress of the English Folk Revival of the 1960's/70's and Grace Jones as a modern icon with a roaring 45 year legacy as one of the most unique theatrical performers of our time.

Saturday's main event brings together a wide mix of performers, combining to bring light to the industry-wide issue of low female representation. Headed up by experimental pop-act ‘Let's Eat Grandma’, a duo who have been rising amongst the ranks as one of the UK's most exciting artists since the release of second album 'I'm All Ears', there's something for everyone.

Other acts include: 'Say Sue Me' the surf-inspired rockers all the way from South Korea, the bass-heavy punk/grime ‘Nova Twins’; the psychedelic trance-inducing ‘Spill Gold’; dirty pink pop punk from Queen Zee; experimental electronica from Mich Cota and a DJ set from Savages. The day looks to be an eye-opener of the abundance of creativity in music today and is a step on the path of gender inequality being a thing of the past.
