INTRODUCING LONDON/VENEZUALA BASED ELECTRO POP DUO COMA COAST....

Coma Coast are an electro-pop duo made up of Mariano Robles, London-based singer/DJ and Rey Morales, a Venezuelan producer and DJ.

We caught up with them recently and chatted about Mariano losing his virginity to Pixies, serving dinner to Patti Smith and collaborating with Joe Goddard, here's how we got on....

Please introduce the band and your music in one sentence....

Collaborations between two long lost brothers.

You’re called Coma Coast, how did you come about choosing this name?

We like the sound of it, listening to our music while driving next to the coast inspired it

Even though you’re signed to Parissi la Musique how hard was it to get noticed by them?

We were lucky enough to be signed with the first track we sent

What music are you currently grooving to?

The 2 Bears, Black Peaches and Rufus spiced up with some Italo disco.

Give me 3 words that best describe you as a band?

Lethargic, uplifting, balanced

Would you rather live with a dog that sings lullabies or a gorilla that can do sign language?

A gorilla, we don't want to kill a dog that is trying to compete with Mariano

What are your Saturday Night and Sunday Morning records?

House music on the dancefloor and anything played by Jordi Savall while preparing breakfast

If push came to shove, what is the BEST album/record ever released and why?

Mariano: Pixies "Doolittle". It completely changed my idea about music first time I listened to it. It was like losing my musical virginity.

‘Fail Better’ what’s the process of making this tune work?

Build a crescendo towards the chorus inspired in some of our favourite disco tracks

If you could collaborate with anyone on your next record, who would it be and why?

Joe Goddard, we are fans of anything he works on

Is there something you would like to tell each of the band members that you haven’t told them before?

We don't want to split up yet!

What classic song would you have liked to have recorded and why?

Anything by New Order

First gig you ever went to?

Bauhaus

Where did you record your EP ‘1989/The Ritual’ and what made you choose that studio?

We recorded it at home and mixed it in a great studio in London just after Jagwar Ma

Name three people (alive, dead or fictional) that you would like as dinner party guests?

Patti Smith, Gloria Stefan and Paul Simon

There are many good bands and musicians out there, who would you ask the readers of musicmuso to look out for?

Black Peaches

Who would you like to know has your music on their iPod, MP3 or cassette walkman?

Obama and Putin

What are your plans for the remainder of 2014?

Release our 3rd EP before the end of the year!

We'd like to thank the guys for taking time to answer our questions, we wish then every success with their 3rd EP and look forward to maybe catching a live set in the near future.
