DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE frontman BENJAMIN GIBBARD offers full-length reimagining of TEENAGE FANCLUB'S seminal 1991 album "BANDWAGONESQUE"....

Benjamin Gibbard, the frontman for Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service, has announced the release of “BANDWAGONESQUE,” a full-length cover version of Teenage Fanclub’s classic 1991 album “BANDWAGONESQUE”.

Produced and performed by Gibbard, this will be available digitally via Canvasback Music/ Turntable Kitchen following its limited edition release as part of Turntable Kitchen’s “SOUNDS DELICIOUS” monthly vinyl subscription service. The vinyl will also include an exclusive bonus 7" vinyl including covers of Alex Chilton's "Free Again" and Beat Happenings' "Bad Seeds,” both of which were covered by Teenage Fanclub on a 7” vinyl released shortly after their release ofBandwagonesque in 1992.

“BANDWAGONESQUE” arrives everywhere Friday, July 28th.

“BANDWAGONESQUE” is heralded by the first track, “The Concept,” which premiered exclusively via NPR Music here. “The singer's approachable warmth dovetails nicely with the idiosyncratic yet still airtight song craft at the heart of the Big Star-loving Scottish power-pop band,” noted NPR of Gibbard’s take on the Teenage Fanclub track.

"Turntable Kitchen approached me last summer about being part of their Sounds Delicious Vinyl series and I was excited about the idea of covering an album in its entirety.

Bandwagonesque is my favorite record by my favorite band of all time.  It came along at a pivotal time in my musical life and I've loved it for over 25 years. It's been such a blast taking these songs apart to see how they work and then putting them back together again,” says Gibbard.

“I was thrilled and extremely flattered when I heard that Ben Gibbard had decided to coverBandwagonesque in its entirety. Needless to say that the reimagining of the album by this very talented fella is both inventive and deftly executed. Thanks Ben,” says Norman Blake, founding member of Teenage Fanclub.

Gibbard’s “BANDWAGONESQUE” was recorded for release as part of Turntable Kitchen’s “SOUNDS DELICIOUS” vinyl subscription club, offering exclusive full-length cover albums on limited edition vinyl. The first-of-its-kind subscription series, “SOUNDS DELICIOUS” sees participating artists – thus far including The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado, Quilt, Mutual Benefit, and more – reimagining landmark albums by legends like Bruce Springsteen, Serge Gainsbourg, and Dennis Wilson, packaged with custom cover art and digital download code. Released November 1991, “BANDWAGONESQUE” is an undeniable indie rock milestone, Teenage Fanclub’s major label debut and most acclaimed release to date at that point. Songs like “Star Sign,” “What You Do To Me,” and “The Concept” – all of which reached the top 20 at Alternative radio outlets across America – saw the Scottish band melding the vibrant noise of their first two albums with a melodic bent inspired by the work of Alex Chilton and Big Star, resulting in an original and extraordinary power pop sound all its own. Named as SPIN’s “Album of the Year,” besting such groundbreaking classics as Nirvana’s “NEVERMIND” and A Tribe Called Quest’s “THE LOW END THEORY,” “BANDWAGONESQUE” remains a stellar work of consummate popcraft, electrifying, influential, and utterly irresistible.

Death Cab for Cutie’s eighth studio album, “KINTSUGI” made a remarkable chart debut upon its March 2015 release, debuting at #1 on Billboard’s “Top Alternative Albums” and “Top Rock Albums” charts, as well as #8 on the overall SoundScan/Billboard 200. Hailed byMagnet as perhaps “the best record of (Death Cab For Cuties’s) 17-year career,” the album was honored with a “Best Rock Album” nomination for the 58th Annual GRAMMY® Awards – the iconic band’s eighth overall nod.
