Debut Solo Album 'We Are The Ones' from GAVIN CHAPPELL-BATES due April 8th....

The album is the culmination of years of playing in bands, writing songs and gigging relentlessly. Friends, family and fans helped pick the final tracks to feature on the album. It was recorded and produced by James Coppolaro at Mix66 (Okiem Warmann, David Botrill, David Ellefson and Loretta Heywood) and features Rob Gibiaqui on drums (Sergey Lazarev, The Pinker Tones), Anna Scott on cello (Imogen Heap), Prue Ward on violin (The Willows) and the choir Full Score conducted by Ralph Woodward.

With hints of and nods to Manic Street Preachers, Feeder, The Pixies and Ash, ‘We Are The Ones’ captures Gavin’s unique style of effervescent emotive yin / yang indie-pop-rock. Mixing the energy of youth with the thoughtfulness of an older mind, ‘We Are The Ones’ is filled with anthems and sensitivity, with social and political commentary sitting alongside more personal moments.

Gavin Chappell-Bates is a singer, guitarist, songwriter and live looper from Cambridgeshire, England performing effervescent emotive yin / yang indie pop. His music shape shifts from acoustic balladry to punk to Britpop to anthemic alternative rock. He sings songs about growing up, politics, suicide, love, hope and determination.

Gavin features regularly on BBC Introducing, and other radio stations worldwide, and has been played nationally by Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music and XFM and Amazing Radio DJ Jim Gellatly. He was nominated for Best Male Solo Artist in the 2015 NMG Awards.

Inspired at the age of eleven by Sgt. Pepper, his musical friends and a few early lessons by Ezio’s Booga, Gavin began his lifelong devotion to music. Since then he has relentlessly pursued self-improvement, teaching himself both to sing and play guitar and learning how to write songs on the way.

After playing in various local bands, Gavin decided in 2014 to embark on a solo career. He released his first EP – ‘Black Holes’ – in February 2015, followed by second single – ’95’ – in July. His third release – ‘We Are The Ones’ – was released on 5 October 2015. His debut album, recorded by James Coppolaro at Mix 66, will be out early 2016. Friends, family and fans voted for their favourite songs to appear on the album.

Gavin lived with depression, anxiety and self-harm for the majority of his teenage years and twenties. Music helped him to overcome this and so he now loves sharing it with the world. He is a strong supporter of various mental health charities and awareness campaigns.

Reviews

“Gavin Chappell-Bates… instantly engaged my full attention, drawing me in – I felt as though he could have held a much bigger crowds attention. He had me wanting to sing along…” - Scorpio Review

“Vocally fantastic, lyrically supreme – pure, honest and uplifting.” - Rock Bandom

“Unapologetic and uplifting pop-rock… these honest and accessible tracks are going to put a smile on your face…We foresee Gavin snagging some more promising support slots and making medium-scale festival appearances next year. If he’s not, we’ll eat our hats.” - Never Enough Notes

“(We Are The Ones) could be a festival anthem if given the chance with its subtle simplicity weaving its way under your skin.” - Tom Sayer

“Gavin’s debut single ‘Black Holes’ was an epic, unhurried stomper replete with a brick-heavy bass line and a brooding, cynical world-view. ‘95’ is by contrast a rather more chirpy reminisce of his misspent youth and the British rock bands of that soundtracked that era… when the air-punching chorus kicks in with “I wanna be back in ’95”, it’s hard not to be carried along on the good vibes.” - R*E*P*E*A*T
