We caught up with deep vocal tech house duo BRONX CHEER to chat about their forthcoming gig at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL....
With the BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL lineup being announced recently, we wanted to get in early and find out more about some of the bands and acts performing, we kick things off by chatting to Tim Nice who is 50% of BRONX CHEER who’ll be bringing their unique blend of deep, vocal and tech house music vibes to the masses, here’s how we got on….
Please introduce yourselves and tell us a bit about your music….
Hi, We are Bronx Cheer, AKA Tim Nice & Paul Parsons, We are known for our Energetic house sets, we love to play house music across all the sub genres, if a tune works, it works!! We also run our own record labels "Tall House Digital & tall House underground"
If I had to say that you were ‘for fans of’ a certain artist who would you choose?
That’s a tough question as our music spans many genres from Disco to Techno, so I’m going to go with 2 if thats Ok? Firstly for the more funky side of what we do it would be Purple Disco Machine and for the Tech side I’d have to say Patrick Topping, these guys are setting the bar with their productions at the moment, its inspiring to us in our own productions
Tell me how you felt when you heard that you’d be playing at Boardmasters Festival this year?
We have been fortunate to appear at Boardmasters since it’s humble beginnings, we are really proud to have been part of it and watch it grow to what it is today. It puts a massive smile on our faces as always, especially on a very grey February day (one of my least favourite months)
Do you know which stage you’re playing yet?
For the last few years we have been on the amazing Point stage, with the backdrop of Watergate Bay & the Atlantic Ocean it has to be one of the most picturesque DJ booths in the world!! The crowd is always amazing there, both from local support and new people hearing our sound, whilst Its not been confirmed yet I’m 90% sure it will be The Point!
What is your favourite memory from past appearances there?
We have many highlights but our best memory has to be 2016, sadly Camelphat and Radio 1's Heidi could not make their sets and we were asked to stand in. The feedback we received from Camel Phat and seeing the crowds reaction to our set is something that we’ll never forget.
The lineup this year is OFF THE SCALE, which bands or artists are YOU really excited about?
We honestly think that this years line up is the best yet, We are looking forward to seeing loads of people but a couple of stand outs for us are Dennis Ferrer and Claude Von Stroke, fingers crossed they are both at The Point too!
Any heroes that you’d like to meet? If so, what would you say to them if you did get to meet them?
Having been in the industry a while now my heroes are now my peers but I’m looking forward to meeting Dennis Ferrer and Claude Von Stroke, Backstage we normally just chat about normal stuff, food and of course, Music!
Will you be sticking around for the whole weekend or heading off after your set?
We are hoping to be involved in one of the after parties that occur in the clubs of Newquay, we are also confirmed to be playing at the amazing Fistral Beach Bar, you should check that place out!! So we will definitely be sticking around for the whole weekend
Will you be camping or staying in a local hotel?
As of yet we are undecided, we have a holiday home, The Square house in Newquay so we may well make use of that for the weekend
Please give me your top three tips to surviving a weekend music festival.
Sunscreen (the sun will shine!) , drink plenty of water & plan your set times so you can come see us play!!!
What do you think it is about Boardmasters that attracts such a large audience year on year?
Great music programming for sure and the setting is unbelievable, combine that with the surf comp at Fistral and the BMX & skating and its a recipe for a great few days
Will you be catching any of the surfing or BMX action?
Definitely, we will be visiting Fistral beach to check out the tented village and the surfing, the Longboarding is my favourite
Why should people come and watch you perform at Boardmasters?
Our sets are full of passion and energy, and if that doesn't entice you then, as we have said the Point is an unbelievable stage, you won’t get to dance with a view like that anywhere else in the world.
Tell me what 2019 has in store for you (apart from appearing at BM!) (releases, tours, gigs, etc….)
We have several releases already lined up on Tall House Digital, We have just opened up our diary for 2019 and the festival bookings are coming in with The Great Estate and Oceanfest (where I’ll be warming up for Craig David) have both just been confirmed alongside The Lizard festival on the 13th July, you’ll also be able to catch us in Ibiza again this year, along with my residencies here in The South West
Lastly, please predict the weather for the festival weekend
It will be Sunny, with a good chance of Surf.
We’d like to thank Tim for his time and wish Bronx Cheer every success in the future, check the Boardmasters website nearer to the festival for stage times. In the meantime, keep up to date with their whereabouts and music by checking them out at the sites below;
