ELEPHANT STONE'S NEW ALBUM 'THE THREE POISONS' IS AVAILABLE NOW....
Montreal psych advocates Elephant Stone released their new album The Three Poisons at the end of October via Hidden Pony Records.
The bands third album to date sees Elephant Stone fuse the groove of the Happy Mondays, the darkness of Echo & The Bunnymen and the jangle of Ride with the serendipitously psychedelic sitar playing of forward thinking frontman and internationally recognised psych leader, Rishi Dhir.
Elephant Stone was conceived in the open mind of Rishi Dhir, one of the most respected sitar and bass players in the international psyche scene. However, The Three Poisons materialised after Dhir’s chance run-in with an abandoned record collection. “It all started on January 1st, 2013. I got a call from my brother-in-law; he had found a box of vinyl on his door step and offered to let me take my picks before he dropped them off at the local record shop.”
After rifling through this stock pile of indie greats; Echo & The Bunnymen’s Songs to Learn & Sing, the Happy Mondays ‘Step On’, Spaceman 3’s Recurring, The Stone Roses’ ‘Waterfall’, Ride’s Today Forever, and countless other classics, Dhir set about reacquainting himself with his heroes of old and was instantly inspired to create.
A year later and the band were deep into working on The Three Poisons. “Things felt different this time around. The grooves were groovier, the sonics rumbled heavier, and the songs were connecting to something bigger. I started to reflect on that abandoned record collection I inherited and In that moment I heard the groove of the Mondays, the darkness of Echo, the jangle of Ride, but what I truly heard and felt coming together in this new batch of songs was, and is, unequivocally the sound of Elephant Stone.” – Rishi Dhir, May 2014
Elephant Stone was formed in 2009 by Dhir. As one of the most highly sought out sitar players in the international psych scene, he has recorded, performed and toured with Beck, The Black Angels, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Horrors, and many more.
To date, Elephant Stone have released two LPs, an EP, and toured extensively throughout North American and Europe. They have spearheaded the Hindie-Rock movement with their deft ability of weaving together rock ’n’ roll, Hindustani classical, and catchy-as-all-hell pop.
