Not to be outdone by its stellar music schedule, Flow Festival has just revealed their inspiring art, design and film line-up, promising a sensory overload of entertainment.

Firstly, artists Adel Abidin, Landys Roimola and Anssi Kasitonni will create installations within the festival area in Suvilahti, Helsinki, unique to each artist's individual style. Meanwhile, the Film Garage has been renewed from earlier years, and will move into Cirko's Maneesisali, this year's setting for cinema as well as the daily aerial acrobatics performance from circus artist Ilona Jäntti.

For the third year running, Flow Festival will be introducing a visual artist, who will create a wholly new, exceptionally elaborate piece of art in the festival area. Following in the footsteps of Tuomas Aleksander Laitinen and Otto Maja, this year's visual artist is internationally acclaimed Adel Abidin (b. 1973), who will create three installations around the festival area, taking on themes such as human rights, discrimination and gender. As an Iraqi artist living between Helsinki and Amman, he uses his cross-cultural background to create a distinct visual language, showcasing his ability to treat difficult topics with irony and humour.  

Flow will also hot young and talented artist Landys Roimola (b. 1992), known for using exciting surfaces and materials. At Flow she presents a sculpture made from industrial waste, namely packaging plastic from the wood industry: waste that is melted and born again as a piece of art. The large-sized artwork is made of several pieces that can be used as chairs, and after the festival will be sold or alternatively delivered to the plastic industry for reuse. The material for Roimola's piece was donated by Lassila & Tikanoja.

Meanwhile, Ars Fennica awarded artist, musician and film-maker Anssi Kasitonni (b. 1978) introduces a robot installation at Flow. True to type, it features robots that are "part tough guys, part unruly yobs". His film The Investigators combines sci-fi thriller, love story and U-boat film, and will be shown as part of the short film selection of Flow's Film Garage.

Hosted this year in Cirko's Maneesisali, this year’s renewed Film Garage will house several short films and feature films, with the short film program being curated by Suomen Elokuvakontakti ry, AV-arkki – The Distribution Centre for Finnish Media Art - and the international club and pop-up festival concept Future Shorts.

Feature films shown over the weekend will include ‘Mistaken for Strangers’, a focus on family affairs through life on tour, and ‘What Difference Does It Make? A Film About Making Music’, a Red Bull Music Academydocumentary featuring the likes of Brian Eno and Richie Hawtin sharing their thoughts on life and music. With a focus on every form of escapism, there’s no better place to get your cultural fix than Flow.
