GIGANTIC INDIE ALL DAYER : VOL 2 – A BIG, BIG LOVE... ANOTHER BIG LINE UP ADDITION... ANNOUNCING THE VERY SPECIAL HEADLINERS OF THE SECOND STAGE:.. THE HIGH
As Manchester Academy gears up to play host to the biggest line up of classic indie this May Bank Holiday, the Gigantic Indie All Dayer 2015 Vol 2, is thrilled to make its first announcement of 2015. We are delighted to exclusively confirm THE HIGH as Very Special Guests to headline our second stage.
Re-uniting especially for Gigantic 2015, we are absolutely delighted to exclusively announce the live return of Madchester bastions: THE HIGH. The Manchester four piece comprising of messrs Andy Couzens, John Mathews, Simon Davis and Chris Goodwin will be complimenting our colossal roster of classic indie giants as they headline our brand-new second stage.
As their first and only scheduled live date of 2015, the beloved baggy band will be melting hearts again as they lift the iridescent indie gems of their debut album Somewhere Soon in what will be their first live performance in over 22 years.
Formed from the Ashes of Buzzcocks F.O.C. by original member of The Stone Roses (Andy Couzens) in 1989, THE HIGH were quickly snapped up by the infamous London Records. The band went on to release their now vintage debut album Somewhere Soon in 1990, a record produced by the Factory-associated maverick Martin Hannett and John Williams. Taking all this into account and not to mention their on-rolling NME singles of the week including: “ Up and Down” “Take Your Time” and 1991 top 40 chart smash hit “Box Set Go"; it's fair to say The High's credentials don't fall short of our Gigantic indie standards.
With the band splitting up in 1993 after the release of their sophomore album The Hype the previous year, The High's unique performance at the Gigantic Indie All Dayer 2015 will be the band's first on stage reunion in over 22 years and sure to be an emotional and unmissable headline show for their legions of fans.
THE HIGH will join their Madchester compatriots and our very special guests INSPIRAL CARPETS at the event and will play alongside other premier indie acts on the bill including headliners ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, POP WILL EAT ITSELF, GANG OF FOUR, THE PRIMITIVES, HURRICANE #1, EAT, DIESEL PARK WEST, MILLTOWN BROTHERS, ECHOBELLY, THE WOODENTOPS, MARK MORRISS (Bluetones), BOB and many more acts and DJs still to be announced - stay tuned!
THE HIGH will play The Gigantic Indie All Dayer @ Manchester Academy on 23rd May 2015

Biography
Jangling guitars, hypnotic bass and vocals coming down from heaven,
The High arrived in 1989 while Manchester was in the thrall of Madchester. Andy Couzens, John Mathews, Simon Davis and Chris Goodwin decided a melodic guitar based sound was the direction they wanted to move into.
Ex Hacienda and Stone Roses manager Howard Jones and legendary producer Martin Hannett were drafted in on management.
Early recording sessions produced a three track demo including “This Is My World”, “Up and Down” and “A Minor Turn” resulting in a host of major record companies rushing to see the band's first gig at The Ritz in Manchester (supporting The Inspiral Carpets). The band signed to London Records in 1990.
Wary of origin producer Martin Hannett's erratic behaviour, London Records soon called in John Williams to co-produce the band's debut album Somewhere Soon. Recorded at Richard Branson's Manor Studio in Oxford the sessions resulted in an album hailed to be of a rare quality and clarity. From the album, three singles “ Up and Down” “Take Your Time” and “Box Set Go" all became NME singles of the week, with the latter charting in the UK Top 30. A sold out tour of the UK and Europe was to follow. The NME said of the group: "The High have got charisma, sass and world weariness all tied up in one and they write the most blissful, sun-kissed individual pop songs". Speaking of "Somewhere Soon" Sounds magazine said: "It is a work of art that contains only three words: short, simple and timeless. The High are one of those bands that have somehow slipped into time's slipstream.Fast forward to 2015 and The High return to play their debut album exclusively at The Gigantic Indie All Dayer 2015 Vol 2 on May 23rd.
Doors to the GIGANTIC INDIE ALL DAYER VOL 2 will open from 1.30PM and the final curtain falls at 11.30PM, with tickets priced at £29.00.
