Recently confirmed to perform at this year’s Field Day festival and following her sell-out show at the Roundhouse in London last week - where her performance was described as ‘powerful, commanding, radiant’ and that of ‘an African superstar’ by London in Stereo - Oumou today releases a rare remix by St Germain of the track ‘Fadjamou’ on February, 9 - listen below;

St Germain is a multi-platinum producer who has been a key, respected figure in electronic music for over two decades, both as a pioneer of French Touch and as an inventor of erudite deep house. Sensual and original, St Germain has always distinguished himself by his craft with a subtle marriage of analog machines and instruments, roots and modernity. His latest eponymous album included traditional Malian instruments, thanks to a love of Malian music that began when he first heard Oumou’s albums back in the early 1990s. His Deep-Afro remix of Fadjamou perfectly matches Oumou’s desire ‘to go for more of a modern sound, to satisfy young people in Mali but being careful, all the while, to respect my culture and tradition”. On Fadjamou, Oumou sings about the family name, an important aspect of Malian culture, which proves a person's bond with an ethnic group and determines their standing in traditional society.

‘Mogoya Remixed’ sees Oumou’s critically praised new album ‘Mogoya’ - included in 2017 Albums Of The Year lists by MOJO, BBC Culture, Gilles Peterson and Songlines – remixed by the likes of St. Germain, Auntie Flo and TWOTEK, with more names to be announced soon.
