Released on 22 May 2020, ‘Come Back’, one of the stand-out tracks of Hayley’s debut is innovatively reworked by an array of DJ talent new and established.
Working around the Brighton songwriter’s transcendent vocal and distinctly dreamy style, the EP showcases five radical transformations of the original track, with a euphoric remix by 90s House icons N-JOI being the first to be revealed. Taking time out of recording their new album, N-JOI give Hayley’s cut the full “Anthem” treatment here, with the remix premiered on BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne show.
Elsewhere on the upcoming ‘Come Back: The Remixes’ EP, there’s an expansive, Techno-tilting instrumental take from DUNCAN FORBES, founding member of genre masters: Spooky. Rising Manchester EDM star GEEK BOY also proves just why he’s rated by DJ peers Toddla T and Mistajam with a sensory-rushing makeover. FatCat records-approved producer THOMAS ASTON delivers a distinctly downbeat and cerebral interpretation all his own. PLUS, closing out the collection with a climactic remix of ‘Come Back’, recent Liftmusic competition winner LOST RAVEN aka Michelle Lister proves her mettle with a darkly sensual overhaul.
The full tracklisting is as follows:
1.’Come Back’ (N-Joi Mix)
2.’Come Back’ (Geek Boy Mix)
3.’Come Back’ (Thomas Aston Mix)
4.’Come Back’ (Duncan Forbes Mix)
5.’Come Back’ (Lost Raven Mix)
An uplifting new release when music seems more essential than ever, the new EP also follows Hayley Ross’ exclusive lockdown live gig as part of the Big BrightONline Weekender last weekend. Organised by the City Of Brighton and taking place over the first May Bank Holiday Weekend, the online event streamed a diverse mix of gigs, events, classes and more from local venues and performers, with Hayley performing an acoustic set as part of the line up. Watch it back here.
Hayley Ross is an outlier, a one-off, a self-starter and quiet disruptor who refuses to be pinned down. Having seen her music featured on Netflix series Orange Is The New Black and aired on national radio station inc. BBC 6 Music, the Brighton singer-songwriter finally released her much anticipated debut album: ‘The Weight Of Hope’. Mixed by John (Stone Roses) Leckie, the record was mastered at Abbey Road studios. Met to a warm critical reception, the album was championed as a ‘Brilliant debut’ (The Daily Express, 4/5) and a “A late night listening goldmine’ (Southern Daily Echo, 8/10) and has established her on the 2020 stage as a songwriting talent to be reckoned with.
