If you're off to BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL in August, you need to catch MOG JONES, read our interview to learn more about her....

You’ll be well aware that we are working with Boardmasters Festival in order to help them promote some of the acts performing at this year’s festival that takes place from 7th - 11th August at the site in Watergate Bay. We have already chatted some amazingly talented artists and performers and I am going to add to the list with a Truro based songstress called MOG JONES. We caught up with her recently to chat about the fetival, some of the acts that she’s excited about seeing and whether she’ll be having a surf whilst she’s at the festival, read on to see how we got on!

How did you feel when you heard that you were going to be playing at Boardmasters Festival this year?

I was really pleased! It’s truly a great festival to play at. I released my debut EP “MOG.” on the 5th of May so i’m really excited to take the opportunity to get it heard by as many people as possible.

Please take this opportunity to sell yourself and convince people WHY they need to make sure they’re in the Net Loft when you’re performing….

I've been playing music around Cornwall now for 4 years but been playing and writing since I was 10. I was always really into The Beatles and David Bowie so I like to think that really comes through in my music, there are also some country influences in there now as well so I think there is something for everyone. The Net Loft is a fabulous stage to play, especially as a relatively unknown artist because people know they are coming to hear something new and therefore are a pretty relaxed audience.

I’m playing on Wednesday 7th August from 22:20 - 22:50….

Have you played there or attended the festival as a punter before? (If so please let me know when you performed/attended)

I am lucky enough to have performed at the festival for the past two years. The first year I was solo and last year I got to play with some other awesome musicians as my band, Mitt Gamon (Harmonica) and Wade Thornton (Drums).

You’re performing on the Net Loft stage alongside some incredible bands and artists, which others are you keen to check out whilst you’re there?

I mean, obviously I am super keen to check out everyone else that is playing but I’m definitely looking forward to hearing Joanna Cooke and Jeanne Naylor as I’ve never seen them before and only heard great things about them...

The festival attracts over 50,000 people every year, what do you think it is that keeps people coming back time and time again?

For me it’s two things, the venue - You can’t beat the location, the view is incredible from the Watergate Bay site especially when the weather is great! And the Line-up - honestly it just keeps getting better and better every year. The festival has such a good mix of local artists and huge well known artists, it’s such a good blend.

There are some pretty incredible acts performing this year, tell me some of the bigger names that you’re keen to check out….

I’m keen to see as many of the acts as possible but I’d be gutted if I missed Sam Fender and Sleaford Mods. I also can’t wait to catch The Rezner

A lot of the performers on the Net Loft stage this year are from Devon and Cornwall, how would you describe the music scene where you come from?

Most of the the other local artists I have met are great and genuinely supportive which is lovely and I think that creates quite a nice music scene for Cornwall. I think it’s friendly and that can so often not be the case.

Whilst in Cornwall, I hope you’ll be partaking in a cream tea, a walk on the beach and maybe a surfing lesson

A walk on the beach I will always go for and the surfing too, though i’m not sure I’d be much good at it. Ha.

Lastly, please tell us where people can keep up to date with you on social media….

My main social media platform at the moment is Facebook where you can find all the details about upcoming shows and releases. Otherwise you can find me on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, Youtube etc. all under “Mog Jones”.

We’d like to thank Mog for sparing her time to chat to us and we look forward to seeing her in the Net Loft at Boardmasters Festival on Wednesday 8th August from 10:20pm (best get there a little earlier to make sure you don’t miss her!) In the meantime, you can check out her music over at Soundcloud
