INTERVIEW: Ahead of this year's OUTER TOWN FESTIVAL in Bristol, we catch up with queer punksters THE MENSTRUAL CRAMPS

Ahead of OUTER TOWN which takes place at various venues in Bristol on 13 April, we wanted to chat to bands and artists performing so YOU can plan your day. Next up is an immensely talented band called THE MENSTRUAL CRAMPS

Please describe your act/band in one sentence

Queer punk that will make you hate your favourite bands

Please tell us a fascinating fact about you or the band that not many people would know

Our lead singer had the first lesbian kiss on the TV show First Dates

Who would you cite as a major influence on you/your band?

We are influenced by the world around us, and our experiences. We try not to be influenced by other bands or musicians that came before us, as you may be setting yourself up for disappointment.

When did your relationship with Outer Town 24’ start?

I live in Bristol, so it's been around me for a while, and I've always popped in and out of it! Looking forward to playing it for the first time!

Have you played Outer Town Festival before? If so, when and if not, what are you looking forward to the most?

No we haven't! We're looking forward to popping in all the venues, checking out as many bands as we can, also looking forward to drinking our own pale ale on tap at The Ill Repute especially for Outer Town Festival! And it's my birthday!

What was your reaction when you knew you would be playing there this year?

Wooohoooooooo, super excited, we love playing in our own city and hanging out all day with other bands, and WALKING HOME! What a sustainable novelty!

From the bands announced so far, who are you looking forward to seeing and who would you hope may yet make it onto the bill?

Opus Kink, Heavy Lungs, Knives, Congratulations and Tokky Horror.

Bristol is an amazing place, what do you love about it?

The warmth of Turbo Island

Tell me about your dream festival artist (can be dead or alive)

Pete Burns from Dead or Alive

Finally, why should a festival punter make an effort to see you at Outer Town Festival this year?

Because everyone's gonna be talking about us and you'll get FOMO if you don't!
