INTERVIEW: We caught up with 5-piece pop-punk-indie band INSTINCTS TAKE OVER ahead of this year's RATTLERFEST....

Ahead of RATTLERFEST which takes place from 19-20 April at HEALEYS CYDER FARM in Penhallow (nr Truro), we wanted to chat to bands and artists performing at the festival so YOU can plan your weekend. Next up is a fab five piece ska/soul/blues/reggae act called INSTINCTS TAKE OVER….

Please describe your act/band

Instincts Take Over are a 5-piece band from the southwest with members hailing from Devon & Cornwall. The set is mainly original material. We have a reputation for high energy Pop-Punk-Indie that draws from Ska, Soul, Blues and Reggae.

When did your relationship with Rattlerfest start?

The Organisers are renowned for many fantastic festivals and events put on every year in Cornwall. For some of us whom are from Newquay, Cornwall it was a great opportunity to submit an application to perform at this year’s Rattlerfest. Would We wouldn’t want to miss out.

Have you played Rattlerfest before? If so, when and if not, what are you looking forward to the most?

This will our first performance at Rattlerfest. The organanisers have excelled themselves with Ratterfest as well as other festivals and events they put on though out Cornwall, so for us to be a part of the Rattler is exciting and a fantastic opportunity to perform and to see other great musicians, and soak up the atmosphere.

What was your reaction when you knew you would be playing there this year?

What a great start to the summer season, we were stoked! Rattlerfest is one of many great events to see new up and coming and established musicians, so to share and perform our original material to a new audience is fantastic and we’re really looking forward to it.

From the bands announced so far, who are you looking forward to seeing and who would you hope may yet make it onto the bill?

We'll be looking forward to Scouting For Girls, they’re a great band to see live. We've lost count how many times we've seen them. The Zutons will be a first for some of us. We enjoy their music, so to see them live will be fantastic. Our Singer Jaimie will be reliving her youth with E17 from back in the London days. As for all the other bands, it will be great to see as many as possible whilst we're there, Blonk 182 & The Andy Quick Band is our radar too.

For future RATTLERFEST’s, It would be great to see Mad Caddies, The Interrupters, Ziggy Marley and the Skatalites.

There is a Rattler Shop onsite, will you be paying a visit for some takeaway produce?

Always worth a visit and a purchase. There are some fine local produce made in Cornwall.

Are you planning on a pasty, ice cream, cream tea whilst in Cornwall?

We'll plan to have a pasty as with members being from both sides of the border Devon and Cornwall it will save any confusion with the scones that come with the cream tea. Cream then jam or, jam then cream. We must stay focused for our performance!

Finally, why should a festival punter make an effort to see you guys at Rattlerfest this year?

We have a new original sound that draws from Pop- Punk-Indie, Ska,Soul & Reggae, we have worked really hard to create our sound. With that said we’re really looking forward to sharing that with the Rattler crowd.
