INTERVIEW: We caught up with Lily from THE MEFFS to chat about BEARDED THEORY FESTIVAL....

After hearing that THE MEFFS are set to play at BEARDED THEORY this year, I was keen to get in touch and ask them a few festival related questions. Read on to learn more about their live show, musical influences, fancy dress (for Sunday), their dream festival lineup, top festival survival tips and WHY you need to be in the crowd when they play…..

Firstly, great news to hear that you’ll be performing at this year’s Bearded Theory Festival which is taking place from 23-26 May in Derbyshire, is this the first time you will have done so?

Yes, first time playing and we're buzzing for it!

Please describe your music/sound/style in one sentence...

PINS YOU TO THE WALL!

I’m yet to see you live so do not know what to expect, please describe a typical live show (if there is such a thing!)

It's noisy, lively and there's always crowd participation. We leave everything we've got on every stage.

Please share some of the acts that have influenced you over the years....

If we're talking stand out influences, credit has to go to acts like M.I.A, The Distillers and Joan Jett. Genre doesn't matter really. One day I've got some 70s punk on, the next I'm listening to 90s Britpop or grunge.

The lineup for Bearded Theory this year is nothing short of spectacular, which of the other acts will you be sticking around to see?

It's proper strong. Amyl and the Sniffers, Soft Play, Bob Vylan, Baxter Dury, Orbital, and that's before even getting down to the second lot of acts. There are some good up and coming acts on there.

The fancy dress theme for the Sunday at the festival is ‘Retro Future’, if you were to dress up, what would you come as?

Originally I was trying to think of a person or thing but I've thrown that out the window. I'd shout CYBERDOG to kit me out! Holographic. Space. Rave. Now I think it's going to have to happen...

If you could curate your own 3-day ‘super’ festival, who would you have as the headline acts? (they can be dead or alive or supergroups)

I'm keeping Amyl and the Sniffers on my festival for the Friday night as they're a go to for me. Turnstile are headlining Saturday night and they're playing GLOW ON in full. The Meffs are closing out the Sunday night. (I can't not say The Meffs!)

Please share your top three festival survival tips....

  1. Take wet wipes

  2. Expect no sleep

  3. Book a B&B! HA HA…..
