INTRODUCING EVERETT BASED DUO JOHNNY HOFFMAN AND THE RESIDENTS....

Johnny Hoffman and the Residents are Johnny Hoffman (vocals and Guitar) and Frico Suave (drums), they pedal music from the rock n' roll/rump shake genre and hail from the city of Everett, Washington. Their influences include Queens of the Stone Age, The White Stripes, The Hives, Green Day & The Pixies. We caught up with the duo to chat about stir fries, The Hulk and touring in the UK, here's how we got on.... 



You’re called Johnny Hoffman and the Residents? How did you come about choosing this name, apart from the Johnny Hoffman part, we mean The Residents! 

Jh- We channel our music from somewhere else we are just vessels



You just signed a contract with Soniphone records, why did you decide to join them and how did this come about?

Jh- Soniphone is a good fit because we found somebody who believes in our music just as much as we do rather than some Jackass who couldn’t care less about our sound.



Your hometown is a place called Everett in Washington, how would you describe the town to an outsider for music influences? 

Jh- a little rap, a little crap. Some new wave/electronic , some rock. 



What is the best advice you ever received and who was it from? 

Jh- You can fail at something you don’t want to do so why not try to do something you like- Jim Carrey



What does music mean to you? 

Jh- Reason to get up in the morning



If push came to shove, what is the BEST record ever made? 

JH- Paranoid-Black Sabbath



Love your sound, what is a Dirty Res live show like and any chance of a UK tour? 

Jh- Energy and some pushing around and if fans go crazy, we go crazy. Uk = yes



EP ‘Death to JHOFF’ where was this recorded and how do you think you’ve evolved from previous recordings? 

Jh- We found someone who is decisive and that was recorded at the Rec Room in our hometown. You will learn from every song. Evolve from every song. And if you don't like it you hit skip and you still win.



What are your Saturday Night and Sunday Morning records? 

Jh- Night would be some James Brown, Sunday Morning would be System of a down



Would you rather live with a dog that sings lullabies or a gorilla that can do sign language? Explain your answer 

Jh- I would choose the dog just incase I somehow pissed off the gorilla



In your opinion, what is the BEST album/record ever released and why? 

Jh- I think the white Album because of the range of it and how many composers you had on it



Have you had any ‘Spinal Tap’ Moments? If yes, please share! 

Frico- last Wednesday my momma told me that birth control and the Beatles ruined our society. I was like damn. She's right!



First guitar riff and drum solo you heard and still gives you he chills to this day? 

Jh- Queens of the stone Age little sister solo



Do you own a record that you wouldn’t like to admit you have? 

Jh- I had a really bad rolling stones album but I got drunk and broke it



Who would win in a fight between King Kong and Hulk? 

Jh- Hulk… Just keeps getting stronger



What was the last thing you cooked? How was it? 

JH-Stir fry it was mouth watering



For a Londoner in Downtown Seattle what three places would you recommend to head out to, one comedy club, one music venue and a place to eat? 

Jh- Showbox Sodo, The Moore Theater and Cyber Dogs



Is there something you would like to tell each of the band members that you haven’t told them before? 

Jh- I miss Montana 

Frico- practice was fun today, I miss you. I'll email this back, then text you, smoke weed and play 'Madden' later?! 



‘Purple Hills’ what a great tune, explain the process and inspiration behind that song? 

Jh- Chaos of trying to figure out what I wanted in life.. Everyone tries to tell you you have to pick one thing in life when that is hogwash you can be good at numerous things through life.. I am not a one trick pony



First gig you ever went to? 

Jh-Maybe Weezer?



Best hangover cure? 

Jh-Naps

Jh- Shark The Herald, Ever so Android, John Paul and The Apostles, Psychedelehant and The Decoys

Jh- Batman



What are your plans for the remainder of 2014? 

Jh- Book a US tour
