INTRODUCING MANCHESTER'S ELECTRO ROCK DUO HIGH HORSES….
I'd like to spend a few minutes telling you all about a fab Manchester based Electro Rock duo HIGH HORSES. They release a single digitally on 24th February 2014 (Forty Six Records), have a kick ass music video and a FREE download, all of which are available for your viewing/listening pleasure below…..
We caught up with the guys inside uber cool UK bakery chain Greggs (it's not really uber cool), whilst waiting for the sausage and bean slices to 'cool' we unleashed some questions on them….
Name of your band? High Horses
Names of all members? Kieran - Guitar/Vocals, Stephen - Synth/Vocals
When did you form? May 2013
Introduce yourself and your music in one sentence? 2 Music Geeks playing with Samplers and Distortion
A fascinating fact about you or one of the band members? We both have matching tattoos of our best friends name
Last time you used public transport and where did you go? Stephen - I actually was being very lazy and got the tram one stop to get home. Busted! Kieran - I used the Train whilst in Amsterdam recently
Last time you felt proud? Walking into a very famous fast food restaurant and hearing our tracks being played with no prior warning, it was very cool and surreal at the same time.
What classic song do you wish you recorded and why? Kieran - Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (One word …. SOLO!) Stephen - Sigur Rós - Hoppípolla (It's the most uplifting song I've ever heard)
Last movie you saw? We both watched The Haunted House together after our last gig….. if you haven't seen it it's a terrible/brilliant spoof ripping off horror films, but it does say something about our intellect.
Last book you read? Stephen - Dan Brown - Inferno Kieran - Do magazines count?!
What did you dream about last night? Stephen – I have a tendency to sleep walk a lot, so while I might not remember the dream, I remember walking up in odd places in my flat. Kieran - I have a vague recollection of dreaming about diving into a swimming pool and I got stuck to the diving board…… terrifying
Last time you cried? Just after we had a fight at rehearsals
Last time you were rude to someone and why? Stephen –I’m not a very rude person, but if I was they were probably rude to me first!
Biggest musical influence? Kieran - AFI Stephen - 'A' - bonus points if you can remember them!
Earliest childhood memory? Kieran - Falling onto my head out of a shopping trolley in Asda Stephen – Being distraught that they wouldn’t let me write in coloured pencils on my first day of school
Best gig you ever played? We played the Edinburgh Fringe festival, it was full….. and we got paid which is always good for poor musicians like us, it went on to buy of first and only deep fried pizza.
Best band/artist of 2013? Jamie Lenman… anger never sounded so good!
Biggest act you have ever played with (supported or on the same bill as)? We're not sure who's been the biggest. We've had a few slots with bands that have gone on to be huge which that have all fallen through last minute…maybe it’s us?! The Shondes were one of the nicest bands we’ve played with.
The last album/record you bought? Kieran - Metallica, Death Magnetic, I hadn't heard it in years so picked it up again Stephen - A Day to Remember - Common Courtesy
Last time you had a fight? Just before we cried at rehearsals
Tell me one of your guilty pleasures? There may or may not have been occasions when we have listened to 'It's all coming back to me now' by Celine Dion in our rehearsal room…
Best advice you ever received and who was it from? After realising how serious we were about music, the best advice we received is from our parents: just to do what makes you happy in life, so we do!
Largest amount spent in a single purchase? Stephen - I bought an amp for £2,000 (which broke and now loiters the corner of our reversal room) Kieran - I have a very expensive tattoo which cost me £850
The sausage and bean slices were taking far too long to 'cool' and we three lads of hungriness had to resort to tucking into a '3 cheese stilton' pasty. Whilst 'S & K' were wiping stringy (or should that be stringy?) cheese from their chins, we rolled in the big gun 'Quickfire' questions….
