INTRODUCING VOCALIST-VIOLINIST-TRIP HOP-SOUL-BREAKBEAT AFICIONADO EDEN ROXX....

Fusing trip-hop, breakbeat and soulful vocals with ambience filled electric violin, Eden has performed at The Roundhouse, Something for Sunday, Proud Camden, Vibe Bar and many other venues.  We caught up with her in Camden for a spot of lunch and a couple of Mojito's. Prior to things getting too messy, we chatted about Slush Puppies, Harry Potter and Kanye West, here's how we got on....

Please introduce yourself and your music in one sentence....

Hey I am Eden Roxx and I am a vocalist violinist who does trip-hop, soul and breakbeat!

Being an unsigned musician how hard is it to get noticed so how has social media aided your music?

It is defiantly a tough industry. But its not something that has come as a shock to me. For me its not about trying to stand out and get noticed intentionally. The music I make is music I have been writing since way before I started gigging publically. It is music I wrote in my room, or on the bus etc. So from that people are attracted to the music I sing, then that is great. They find something in my music that stands out. It is a great feeling to know your music is spreading!! Social media has been a great way of doing that!

‘King’ is a great tune, what inspired you to write this?

Thank-you that is so nice! All of my songs are true to events that have happened to me. But King, for me personally, is the most true to my heart. I see King as a film, and the music video is very cinematic, much like the events in the song. I won’t disclose the events point blank, but if you listen to the lyrics attentively, it paints a broad picture of what inspired the song!

What is your favourite venue to play at?

It was Proud in Camden because everyone in Camden in so open to the arts, and new music ect...BUT…I recently played at Westfield Presents, and I have to say I loved the feeling of playing to an unsuspecting audience. To see them stop, sit, and listen is motivating. As well as reassurance that their are people out there who appreciate your music!

You have worked with Mangoseed on one of their music videos, how did this come about?

I know Karlos, the awesome Bass player, and learnt he was in a band! Which is awesome…so I went along to their gigs and instantly became a super-fan because their vibe is off the hook. They have this crazy energy of cool dreads and wicked music on stage.

Are you studying? What are you studying and what advice would you give to someone who struggles with their studies?

I have just graduated from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama! It was difficult studying, because I found out halfway through that music was my real calling. But advice if this happens is just stick it out and finish! It cannot do any harm to be musical and have another qualification and skill. It can only be a good thing. (I am too tight with money haha!).

How and when did you decide that you wanted to be a performer?

I have been performing since I was very young as its something I always enjoyed! I trained as a classical violinist from 5 years old, and so was used to performing in front of an audience. But performing as a soloist singer has been a new experience, and Ive been performing as a soloist vocalist and violinist since I was about 17!

What does music mean to you?

It means my life, my work, my enjoyment, my hobby, my whatever things are called when its not a hobby.

In your opinion, what is the BEST album/record ever released?

Everything Michael Jackson. If that counts as an answer?

Name three people (alive, dead or fictional) that you would like as party guests?

Do you think we can ever live in a world where a chicken can cross the road without having its motives questioned?
