We chatted to JUSTIN SULLIVAN from NEW MODEL ARMY ahead of his solo performance at BEAUTIFUL DAYS FESTIVAL....

After watching New Model Army perform a blistering set at last year's Beautiful Days Festival, we were excited to see that Justin Sullivan was appearing at this years event playing a solo set. We did catch up briefly last year but we didn't have time to sit and chat so we thought we'd do the interview this year ahead of the shenanigans taking place....

You're a very busy man, tell me what has been the highlight of 2018 so far for you? I'd think that the 'Night of a thousand voices' would be quite high up the list?

Definitely the 1000 Voices project!

Standing in a field watching bands play on stages has become a big thing over the past few years especially in the UK, what do you think it is about music festivals that people enjoy so much?

It’s much more about the gathering and the atmosphere than just the bands – which is why Beautiful Days has got it so right.

Tell me your top three tips on how to enjoy a 3 day music festival?

  1. Pace yourself.
  2. Don’t worry about trying to see everything.
  3. Slow down. Enjoy.

What is the best thing to drink?

Water. Lots.

What is the best hangover cure?

Water. Lots.

You’re playing at Beautiful Days Festival, which of the other acts performing are you hoping to catch whilst you’re there?

I haven’t really looked yet but definitely Gogo Bordello (old friends).

We’ve had a spell of amazing weather over the last 6 weeks with very little rain, what is your long-range forecast for the weather at Beautiful Days this year?

Never second guess the weather especially in South-west England. It will be as it is.

New Model Army played at Beautiful Days last year, are you appearing solo this year because the same band can't play 2 consecutive years?

Not particularly. I was asked and I do like the festival. NMA has done it a few times but usually a few years apart.

New Model Army has an army of loyal supporters all over the world, you've no doubt played tons of festivals over the 37 years the band have been together, where would you say you receive the warmest welcome?

Everywhere.

What have you got lined up for the remainder of the year?

A few more shows in the UK, Greece, Turkey and our usual Christmas mini-tour. Apart from that work on the next creative project…

We'd like to thank Justin for taking the time out of his day to chat to us and we look forward to catching his set at Beautiful Days on the Big Top stage.
