Music that is atmospheric like a soundscape is completely unique within itself. Choosing to shun the traditions of song format in favour of song lyrics as poetry, spoken word with simple constructed guitars and elegant sounds that tell a story. 

Kaninchen from Cornwall use this idea with their latest EP, Loss, which travels a journey through falling in love, losing it and coming out of the grief at the other end of the tunnel. A journey I’m sure many of us have been on at some point in our life.

Beautiful meditative sounds begin flowing through into words describing meeting a love whilst merging into something more dangerous and daring as emotions grow between two people. Delicate guitar strings flow into delicate piano tinkering as we travel into Act II, from marriage to breakdown to death. Back to guitar strings mourning a broken voice depicts a violent death as he realises his loss. After a gentle pause the final Act III offers soft harmonies like a wolf under the moonlight as a dark soul comes out the other end from grief to hope as well as remembrance.

It is necessary for this music to close your eyes and imagine the story as if it were an audio book but matched heavenly with a score that depicts the adventure of life. A beautiful simple soundscape that tells a story choosing the sounds of music over the spoken word but blending beautifully into a meditation whilst giving a conclusion of hope from the darkest of times in our lives.

A unique innovative concept to tug at the heartstrings is executed perfectly and a memorable piece of audio art to listen to when in need of something a bit different to the standardised song format.
