LISTEN: Brighton alt-pop duo TYDL share their hotly anticipated debut EP ‘Ethereal’ - Out March 15
Led by the smokey, emotive and commanding lead vocal of Rebecca, and the vibrant electronic production and driving beats of percussionist Jack, TYDL’s music offers a unique experience that treads between infectious pop melodies vocals and atmospheric-yet-direct and purposeful synth led soundscapes.
Produced by the award-nominated Brighton producer Lewis Amoroso the new EP ‘Ethereal’ showcases the alternative, genre blending musical ideas and commercially viable, melodic approach which has seen the duo gain press acclaim and radio support to date. Lead single ‘Bad Dreams’ is a prime example of this, bringing together delicate piano, pulsing sub bass, vibrant synths and a driving, lo-fi electronic beat under Rebecca’s soaring lead vocals. Accessible and danceable whilst retaining an atmospheric, dark undertone, the single showcases the striking sound that the duo are capable of.
Reflecting on the writing process, Rebecca shares, "The EP was mainly written during the Covid epidemic where I had a lot of self-reflecting going on. I drew on my past experiences and channelled them into writing the EP. I felt as if I had lost a part of myself to people-pleasing and wanted to write an EP that screamed 'Good for her'. I think that we need to stay true to ourselves and not care about what others think so I wanted to give that message of strength through the EP."
TYDL's trailblazing sound has already garnered attention from prestigious publications such as Wonderland Magazine, Earmilk, and Atwood Magazine, as well as multiple plays on BBC Introducing. Their live shows, described as mesmerising and energy-packed, have seen them sell out venues across Brighton and London including Concorde 2 and Komedia.
