LISTEN: PARK DAYS releases his hotly anticipated debut EP 'WAITING AROUND'....
Park Days, the solo side-project of Brighton based, Dutch Criminal Record founding band member Sam Thrussell, releases his hotly anticipated debut EP ‘Waiting Around’ (March 15th).
Showcasing his uncanny abilities as both a songwriter and his ear for tight, indie soundscapes, the new EP capitalises on the hype the project has received following sets at The Alt Escape, tastemaker press coverage (1883, Earmilk, Notion, Fame) and radio play across the UK.
Built around tight, shimmering guitar led backdrops topped with Sam’s understated-yet infectious lead vocals and boxy distorted production, Park Days’ four track debut captures an essence of The Strokes ‘Is This It?’ whilst retaining a fresh and current vibrancy with its honest, reflective lyricism and intertwining bass and guitar parts. The EP’s title track and lead single ‘Waiting Around’ is a prime example of this approach, infectiously catchy whilst retaining an effortlessly cool indie edge.
Speaking about the EP, Sam shares: “The whole EP has been a long time in the making and all the songs come from a similar sonic mindset of trying to recreate 00’s indie so they all fit together despite being written at different times. Waiting Around I think was composed in 2018 and never fitted into anything I was doing with DCR but really feels at home with the other songs on the EP.
I wrote it about that feeling of being ready for your big break to come in life but it’s not happening so you feel you’re treading water until that moment but at the same time wanting to be proactive to change your situation. In that sense I called the EP ‘Waiting Around’ because it’s my attempt to not just wait for life to happen but to go out and get it! Musically there’s a nod to The Strokes in some of the chord voicings and vocal sound but like the others songs on the EP but there’s some nice backing vocals too (which is my ever present nod to The Beach Boys)!
The other new track New Year was written on 4th January 2020 and lyrically is me wondering aloud about what the year has in store. It’s particularly ironic considering what happened in 2020. I like how it’s really short and succinct and has some quite intricate interweaving guitar lines.”
As an artist, Sam has experienced a huge amount of success across both his first two singles with a whole host of support across press, radio and Spotify playlists and within the band Dutch Criminal Records. Having sold out tours across the UK and Europe with DCR, Sam is no stranger to success garnering national radio play (BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X), tastemaker press (Wonderland, Clash, Under The Radar, Earmilk, Atwood among others) and Spotify Editorial Playlists with the band.
Now releasing his debut solo EP, Park Days is established as a successful artist in his own right.
