LYKKE LI - I NEVER LEARN - ALBUM REVIEW

In the contemporary female ‘fronted’ music world we are surrounded by unique voices that are elevating the standards. Ellie Goulding, London Grammar, HAIM, Laura Mvula, Lorde, CHVRCHES… need I go on? Well another unusually enchanting voice has stepped in and raised the standards that little bit more. She is Swedish Singer-Songwriter Soprano goddess Lykke Li with her third offering ‘I Never Learn’.

Imagine Stevie Nicks set against a synth filled 80’s soundtrack and you’ve hit the nail on the head with this album. From vocal heavy melancholia in ‘Love Me Like I’m Not Made of Stone’ to the Mama’s and Papa’s vibe in opening title track ‘I Never Learn’ you will be ready for a perfect hot lazy summer with this album but also prepared for the long stormy indoor days.

From the up tempo tracks ‘Gunshot’ to the sublime in the popular single ‘No Rest for The Wicked’ which is all rounded off by the ethereal heartbreak finale in ‘Sleeping Alone’. It’s been a while since Adele’s ‘21’ which shaped the music world in regards of the go to album when in need of a quick fix for a broken heart but ‘I Never Learn’ is most definitely the perfect contemporary follow up if you are in need of something new to your collection.

Favorite Track: ‘Gunshot’ throws me back to the beautiful sounds of Nicks ‘Edge of Seventeen’ way back when. A perfect summer soundtrack to throw your hippy robes on and dance, cry and sing to in the haze of summer.
