METZ unveil new track 'Spit You Out', taken from forthcoming 2nd album 'II' due on May 4th via Sub Pop Records....
'Spit You Out', a new track from the tremendous second METZ album, II (due May 4th on Sub Pop), is available online now.
The FADER says of the track, "'Spit You Out' has one hell of a buzzsaw hook, with howling vocals and a chuggling churn that tastes like battery acid but goes down smoothly regardless.”
METZ’s 2015 North American and European tour schedule in support of II has been extended and begins April 15th in Buffalo, NY at Mohawk Place, running through August 11th in Denver, CO at Larimer Lounge. Along the way they’ll play shows with Lightning Bolt (April 15th-18th), FIDLAR (May 11th-19th; May 21st-30th), Protomartyr (May 1st-2nd), and Bad Breeding (June 16th). Please find a complete list of tour dates below.
In related news, you can watch the band’s amazing performance of 'Nervous System' (from II) filmed by Pitchfork TV at Mexico City’s NRMAL Festival. Watch that one here.
METZ will release II, the follow up to their critically acclaimed S/T debut on CD / LP / DL worldwide May 4th through Sub Pop Records. The album, featuring the highlights 'Acetate', 'Spit You Out' and 'The Swimmer', was recorded at various studios throughout Ontario, Canada, and produced and mixed by the band with assistance from returning engineer Graham Walsh.
More on METZ:
“What happens when a seemingly irresistible force meets an immovable object is a serviceable metaphor for the music METZ creates, both live and on record. Now behold II, the concussive new full-length from what is arguably North America’s finest touring rock band. Written and recorded in 2014, after two years of constant shows behind their rightly adored self-titled debut, II is METZ at their most true to form—as pure an expression of what they do as can currently be committed to tape. The guitars are titanic, the drums ill-tempered, the vocals chilling, and the volume worrisome. Though they incorporated new instruments, (baritone guitar, tape loops, piano, synth, found sounds) and stretched out the arrangements, they still managed to “stay true to what made us tick in the first place: that immediacy," Edkins calls it. "If it punches you in the gut (read more at Sub Pop).”
What people are saying about METZ's II:
"'Acetate' is four minutes of unrelenting rock that's the perfect follow-up to METZ's 2012 debut album, which landed on the short list for the Polaris Prize. On their second record, the noise rockers continue to take no prisoners.” - NPR Music “All Songs Considered”
"Taking no prisoners whatsoever, the trio's latest is a most welcome assault on the eardrums." ['Acetate'] - NME
“Heart-pounding, riotous track” ['Acetate'] - Playboy
“'Acetate' is a particularly crushing song...The guitars, bass, and drums are alternately slithering and unforgivingly in-your-face, frontman Alex Edkins’ vocal delivery growing to a soul-purging howl as the instrumentation gets louder...It’s a full minute longer than the average METZ track, making it a perfect glimpse of this band’s ability to lure you in with a burning riff and keep you transfixed with an ensuing groove.” ['Acetate' / Top 10 Songs of the Week] - Consequence of Sound
"A vital reminder of the Canadians’ unhinged force." ['Acetate'] - DIY
"'Acetate' is as brutal as we’ve come to expect from this band, a ferocious noise-punk skree that will absolutely crush you if you cross its path.” - Stereogum
