MOLLY BEANLAND COVERS FIVE'S 90S CLASSIC 'WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT'....

“Matches the sweeping melodrama of Kate Bush to a contagious pop touch worthy of CHVRCHES or London Grammar” - Clash

“Three minutes of sparkle synths, echoing guitars and Ms Beanland’s sumptuous vocal. Fan of Cocteau Twins? Tune in.” - The Line of Best Fit

“A sugary, sticky tangle of booming electronic beats, hypnotic vocals and a suitably explosive chorus. If there's any justice, Beanland should be lounging atop the charts by next summer. We're swooning.” - The 405

“Modern-day purveyor of power ballads. Expect a semi, if not total, eclipse of the heart [...] That's the effect she's having on listeners, seducing with a knowing deployment of icy passion and controlled bombast.” - The Guardian (New Band Of The Day)

With a name that conjures up images of Grimm fairy tale characters and movie heroines from the 1980s, London based singer-songwriter Molly Beanland released her debut ‘Night Dreams’ EP digitally on 12th May 2014. In Molly's own words: "I chose WTLGO to cover because it got stuck in my head one day after listening to a 90s pop playlist I made for a road trip. The original is a lot of fun, it's so boy band bubblegum. Being from Texas my producer Kyle (Skruncha-roo) hadn't heard of 5ive, so I think he found it pretty hilarious at first. We wanted to bring a little darkness to it coming at it from a female perspective, it's a pretty sexual song, I like the idea of the woman being the one doing the seducing, if you consider the lyrics she's kind of a dangerous character "never wanted to be so unkind, only one thing on my mind"... but also a sweet and gentle romancer "the love and tenderness" ... I like that interesting mix of the innocent and the dark. Kyle and I were really interested in the idea of using our 80s influenced synth sound that runs through my other tracks but with more of a 90s hip hop vibe to it - a Kavinsky and Amerie lovechild."
