musomusofm on the radar playlist #14 - Jelia, Strange Souvenirs, Mat D, Vladdy, Shoefinger, Lie Sipine and more....

As the quality tracks for my playlists come rolling in, the days roll past, can you ‘Adam and Eve it’, it’s February already and I don’t think my feet have touched the Christmas and New Year!

I’m already looking forward to booking some festivals this year, we’re based in the Westcountry so anything South of Bristol is ideal for us, so far, we have Boardmasters in the bag, I am also looking to send a team to The Great Estate in June and maybe the One Big Summer event in Plymouth but we’ll see what comes back and who is available at the time.

In the meantime, get your ears around this batch of 9 bands and artists who have all recently released new music, there’s something for everyone and if you like what you hear, go check them out further.

Underneath the embedded playlist, you’ll find a bit of information about the featured artists including links to their social media, please pay them a visit, give them a like if you enjoyed what I played and dig deeper, some of the acts have been going for some time so a few words of praise would go a long way!

See you on the other side….

Jelia

Jelia’s single ‘Each Time You Fall’ is an astonishing debut for the young songwriter from Warsaw, Poland. She delivers wise, soulfully poetic lyrics through her iconic vocals and electrifying instrumental.

‘Each Time You Fall’ is an immersive reflection on a recent love. It sombrely articulates the overload of emotions a person can have in that time, but also contrasts that, saying how it's easier to start a new relationship than to face the fear and not be afraid to love again.

An incredible fusion of soothing RnB and indie pop with vibrant drum breaks reminiscent of the UK dance scene. The collaboration of Jelia and producer Micah Volter brings together two contrasting backgrounds and influences that create a thriving dynamic, showcasing both musicians' revered talent.

Strange Souvenirs

Strange Souvenirs are two German born, Canada raised brothers, Matthias & Thomas, one lives in Hamburg the other in Berlin. They connect via the web and occasional studio sessions.

They call their songs and themselves Strange Souvenirs because they collect and compile audio input and inspiration on their travels through the vast world of music and then they twist them into something strange and very special…..

Their sound is unique and judging by their list of influences (The Cure, Massive Attack, Arcade Fire, Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, The Beatles, Elliot Smith, PJ Harvey, Radiohead) you can understand why!

The single (Beaches) was recorded, mixed and mastered at The Famous Gold Watch Studio in Berlin together with their producer and creative collaborator Cameron James Laing.

Of the single, they added, “True to our band name we aim to push every release to show a new unexpected side of our musical personality / split personality. These songs then reverberate as audio anomalies and strange ‘sonic souvenirs’ from distant dimensions of sound & sanity. Something strange is going to happen.”

Mat D

Mat D is a singer, rapper, songwriter and producer, he was born in Timmins, Ontario Canada but now resides in Ottawa. Mat D has been releasing music since late 2019.

He cites Childish Gambino, Kid Cudi and Brakence as his current influences for his new releases and his latest track ‘h4ze’ is a song about the lessons we learn about growing up after moving away from home. Accompanied by a Hyperpop, Aphex Twin-esque beat, this song is a re-invention of Maŧ D's style into the new year.

Mat D has also been involved with local Timmins collective known as ‘Waste’, and has collaborated on multiple musical projects, including the Transcendence collab EP with Krown, and the Strachan mixtape series as a producer and featured artist.

Of the track, Mat D says, "h4ze is a very personal record for me, I feel as if I'm baring more emotionally but it's been so liberating. The hook of the song especially hits home for me, knowing that despite everything going on in my life, everything will be ok in the end. I hope you enjoy and can connect with this record in your own way."

Vladdy

Vladdy is a Portland, Oregon based solo artist who started releasing music in 2020, but has been writing songs since he was just 12 years old.

He cites his influences as artists like Choker, Mkgee, Jean Dawson, Yung Lean, Frank Ocean, and Radiohead.

Of the album ‘Puppy’, Vladdy says, “PUPPY is about growing out of teen-hood and looking at the world differently as someone who is moving out and moving forward in life. Feeling like a naive puppy who is not yet ready for "the real world". This project explores my stories, thoughts, experiences, and dreams relating to the chapter of life I'm in. I hope those who give it a listen will be able to connect and relate to the stories I tell and the production style I use.”

He avoided releasing these songs for about 6 months, having many doubts in himself and his work. He abandoned the project entirely only to recently return to it and hear it with fresh ears. He still connects deeply with everything he talks about in PUPPY and wants others to experience it as well, hopefully relating to the place he’s in right now.

As a final note, Vladdy says, “PUPPY is the encapsulation of where I am in my life today: fear, doubts, and questions intertwined with curiosity, excitement, and catharsis.”

Lie Supine

Zachariah Storm (aka Lie Supine) is from the Colwyn Bay on the North coast of North Wales (not far from Liverpool).

Born out of a COVID lockdown, he took a lot of his own material from over the years and re-wrote and redefined it. After jamming the songs with friends and family, he hopes he will have a set line up ready to go pretty soon.

Having played and toured in a few bands over the years, he feel like he’s finally got the sound he always wanted.

He added, “I've got loads of material recorded which I'm going to bombard the world with in 2022, then I’ll look to start doing live performances.”

His influences include Placebo, Brian Jonestown Massacre & Oasis.

"Everything's gonna be alright" - the line we always tell ourselves and each other.
