Mari

Mari is the moniker of London DIY producer and singer-songwriter Ann-Marie Azurunwa.

It was at the mere age of 5, Mari sat down to compose her first piece, but it was after being gifted a guitar for her 13th birthday, Mari became obsessed with writing music. Since then she has been doing most of her writing, producing, and recording in the comfort of her home studio.

After being exposed to a broad range of music in childhood, and growing up in the internet age, Mari’s influences are eclectic, from composers such as Tchaikovsky and Schoenberg to more contemporary artists such as PJ Harvey. While attending university, she found inspiration in the circumambient UK Underground music scene, which influence is evidently still pervasive in her sound.

Mari’s musical endeavours first went public at the age of 15 when her music teacher, impressed with an instrumental track that she produced for her class, would play it at school events. However, her first full-length public project officially under ‘Mari’ was in 2019 with her experimental EP ‘Exogena’, released exclusively on Bandcamp. Since then, Mari has released a sophomore EP and a number of singles and music videos.

Her music has been featured in a number of blogs, playlists, and played on UK radio station Glitter FM.

Her latest single ‘Rocky Mountain’ was released on March 17 2022 and is a part of a full-length debut album due out later this year.

Tatarella

TATARELLA is an Italian singer-songwriter and actor, pseudonym of Antonio Tatarella (32), author and singer who entrusts his own pen and his own voice to the arrangements of Gaetano De Luca (31), young pianist and producer.

Tatarella and De Luca met in 2006 during high school, they began to become passionate about the world of music and to study mainly the Italian songwriting.

Together they begin a journey that will take them on two different paths. TATARELLA is bewitched by the world of theater and as well as singing, also acts and participates in various shows. Gaetano De Luca continued to study music and musical composition with professionals in the sector, making experiences both in the field and Live. The influences are varied, TATARELLA is passionate about the ROCK world from Queen to Aerosmith to our Timoria and Litfiba, De Luca remains linked to the Italian singer-songwriter world between Dalla, Fossati, De Crescenzo and the more modern artists such as Cremonini and Tommaso Paradiso.

In the production of this song, there are the drums of Davide Frezza, the guitars of Daniele Pirozzi, the bass Roberto De Rosa and Gaetano De Luca on keyboards. The track was mixed by Daniele Palladino.

The song in question had a long gestation period. It was written in 2010 and designed as a songwriting piece of music in light Italian. The song was then abandoned for years and resumed only in 2021 and embellished with a different arrangement, more rock/melodic and modern sounding.

Am Samstag

Am Samstag (which means ‘Saturday’ in German) may hail from the land of yodel, but the Swiss band plays a dirty and savage grunge, tinged with punk, spiced with metal and sprinkled with pop.

Comprising of drummer Baptiste Maier, bassist Stephane Grand and guitarist/vocalist Gabriela Varela, the trio was formed in September 2018 in Lausanne. After releasing their debut 4-track EP (1) in 2019 and playing over thirty shows in Switzerland, France and the United States, the band returned to Seattle in early 2020 and locked themselves in ‘Soundhouse Recording’ to compose and record new songs with Jack Endino. The result was their new album ‘Dualism’ which was released on March 18th via Black Market Music and Urgence Disk Records.

The term ‘dualism’ has a variety of uses in the history of thought. In general, the idea is that, for some particular domain, there are two fundamental kinds or categories of things or principles. From Mathematics to Morals, or Ethics, the concept of dualism is inherent to our society and deeply rooted in each human being:Yin and Yang, God and the devil, good and evil, light and darkness, body and soul, love and hate, trust and betrayal…

Recorded at Soundhouse Recordings a few days prior to the global Covid-19 pandemic kicked in, the13-track album reveals Am Samstag’s heart and soul. Benefitting from Endino’s solid experience and his invaluable advice, the compositions oscillate between slow and adrenaline filled tempos, strongly distorted riffs and clear and melodic lines, sometimes almost psychedelic. Drawing inspiration from the depths of their musical influences, the band deliver a promising album, aggressive and yet touching, nostalgic and yet refreshing.

Catch the band live throughout Europe this year, for more info on live dates and the bands musical happenings, head to their socials below.

Iuliano

Progressive indie music producer, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Iuliano delivers intimate vocals and cryptic lyrics over an orchestral palette of complex harmonies and spectral electronica on his latest EP De-Algorithm (slated for release on April 8, 2022) — an esoteric concept album that serves a sardonic critique and near parody of the new digital world order ruled by algorithms and the plight of analog humans who must navigate life under the cold calculus of artificial reason.

“I started this project as a testament,” says Iuliano. “If something happened to me tomorrow, I would want to have something to represent me. All of the music that I have done up until this point has been just a compromise.”

The individual songs of De-Algorithm and a series of accompanying videos follow a storyline about a character who vanishes suddenly, with the where and how slowly being revealed over subsequent tracks.

While many of the tracks on De-Algorithm feature guitar, it is not the instrument Iuliano is really familiar with, but the one he utilizes to write songs. “It was a deliberate peculiar choice made precisely because of not being a guitar player. This pushes me to explore ideas until I find something interesting, and then I freestyle the melody,” he notes. “I begin with an accessible melody, but then introduce the listener to different scenarios that evolve from the original idea.”

While Iuliano always begins with a concept, he prefers to realize his muse serendipitously. “Accidents are a very big deal in music, but you have to be able to hear them,” he reveals. “Some people might take them as a mistake, but most of them will lead you, one way or another, to an interesting place. Normally, these are the places that I like to wander.”

Having spent so much time arranging and producing for others, Iuliano’s personal vision as an artist now comes full circle with De-Algorithm, a project that is defined as much by its limitless imagination as it is by technical production limits.

“It’s the sound that I’ve heard my whole life, together in one place,” he notes. “Everybody has a limit – sometimes the wrong side of the limit keeps you from making music, but if you can go around it, it becomes a point of power. You can express yourself through your limits. It makes you different from other artists and it becomes your point of strength”.
