musomusofm on the radar playlist #55 - Fonzy and Company, Sonic Winter, My Cousin's Girlfriend's House and more....

Hey folks, it’s been a while since I put the last playlist out there, been very busy at work and just haven’t had the time recently to pull it together but I think you’ll agree that it’ll be well worth the wait!

It is now the 16th May which is pretty much midway through the month, we have another double Bank Holiday weekend coming up in the form of the Queen’s Jubilee, I have been invited to a festival in Cornwall for the 4 days but I can only cope with 2 as I’m getting old and need time to recover form the fun and frivolity that takes place whilst I’m away from home! If you’re looking for something to do over the weekend to take your mind off the mindless hours of telly drone, head to The Great Estate Festival website for more info on tickets, bands and other exciting things.

Back to the music, we have 9 tracks from bands and artists all over the world, some of which were discovered on a fantastic platform called musosoup.com which I thoroughly recommend for any act that doesn’t have a massive budget for a PR campaign, for more info, head to musosoup.com and you can learn about the way that the site operates.

As usual, you’ll see our featured artists listed just below the Spotify playlist, please take a moment to read about them and check them out on your favourite social media platforms.

See you on the other side.

Fonzy and Company

‘The Kids Stay Home’ is the first single from the forthcoming and highly anticipated EP ‘Touché’ from Bristol Alt-Rock Quintet Fonzy and Company.

Touché is a musical rollercoaster of melancholy, beauty, and hardship. It blends hard rock, acoustic, pop punk and sounds from decades of music past.

This record was produced at Innersound Audio (Asking Alexandria, Glamour Of The Kill, Skarlett Riot) and promoted by San PR and Glasstone Records.

This track was inspired by The Front Bottoms, Green Day, Teenage Fanclub, The Muffs, Feeder and many more and describes an outlook of disdain from your fellow man. Because they’re the experienced ones, your take on anything is patronised, this is anybody from parents, bosses, authority figures, anybody who tells you they have the best intentions but uses that power to belittle another view. ‘so blind, we stare’.

Fonzy & Company have an ethos of heart felt, honest and real music. They attribute to the greats and never aspire to be a follower of current trend - but a representation of what once was and could be in music's future.

This, along with a new music video to promote the ‘Touché’ EP are available to hear/watch NOW.

Sonic Winter

Originally formed in 2012, this French-Scottish-Brazilian-Swedish artist collective is at its core a duo comprised of guitarist Jean-Marc Millière and keyboardist Francis Girola. Yet, each and every one of their projects features a variety of talented musicians from all around the globe and stemming from highly diverse musical backgrounds.

Likewise, their repertoire is equally varied and unclassifiable. There is one thing we know for certain: they refuse to be pigeon-holed into just one genre or style. Fusing elements of rock, soul, blues, trip-hop and electronica, Sonic Winter’s music is steeped in the 1970’s artistic ethos, back in the days when people were not afraid of crossing over creative borders. In that regard, every song sets out on a truly unique voyage of discovery that takes you by surprise, an epic journey of sound that can be visually evocative, thoughtful and even danceable at times.

Their latest offering ‘Take My hand’ tells the story of an unknown artist who uses music as a way of escaping the harshness of his urban life. Reading like a stream of consciousness, the lyrics convey a myriad of images, thoughts and emotions passing through the narrator’s mind, like a poetic patchwork of effects.

The spiritual references of the chorus, backed up by the uplifting chants of the gospel choir in the surprising coda, express the artist’s hope to reach a higher plane of existence through the sanctity of music.

I have listened to the track and watched the accompanying video and was instantly struck at just how un-categorisable it really is, I heard rap, I heard trip-hop, I heard a track which dares to reach far further than many that I have recently heard, this is a refreshingly honest music that constantly surprises the listener, a real treat for the senses.

The lyrics were written and sung by MC Elijah Black.

My Cousin’s Girlfriend’s House

Formed in 2020, My Cousin’s Girlfriend’s House are an alt-indie-rock trio consisting of musicians with deep roots in the Philly and surrounding DIY scenes including Brian Quirk (Kissing the Klepto, Brian Quirk), Andrew Hight (The Jumping Juvies) and Pete Long (Above the Mendoza). MCGH pulls from a range of influences, from pop-punk/indie groups like The Wonder Years, Modern Baseball, and The Front Bottoms, to The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Revivalists, and more. Their latest track ‘Wasting Away’ was released on May 13.

Following the release of their debut EP, 'EMCEEGEEAYCH", the trio hunkered down through various phases of lockdown, honing in on songwriting in preparation for the next phase of the band. MCGH released their first single, 'Therapeutic Hypocrite', in February and continue to gig regionally in support of 'Wasting Away' and their upcoming second EP.

Produced and mixed by Pete Zen (Jet Jag, Hang Tight) at Landmine Studios in Ewing, NJ., "Wasting Away" is an aggressively upbeat track with an energetic vibe featuring melodic guitars, intricate yet slamming drums and a passionate vocal delivery that touches on the monotony that is a desk job and the roadblocks in taking a nontraditional path in a corporation-dominant America.

We love it, I hope you love it too!
