NEW POND LIFE SIGNING AFTER 22 YEAR HIATUS SINCE TALK TALK'S LAUGHING STOCK - ZOLA BLOOD....

Zola Blood is the latest signing to Pond Life Songs, the label synonymous with Talk Talk’s 1991 album Laughing Stock and more recently Liverpool’s avant-pop trio Ninetails. Despite a 22-year hiatus, Pond Life’s passion for bold, inventive new music remains strong, as proved by their newest signing.

First offering ‘Grace’ blends a considered mix of ambient electronica and dream pop undertones to create a soundscape of undulating synths and haunting vocals. Stuttering beats eventually give way to a relentless groove, dense synths and chiming guitars, in music that blurs the line between electronic and physical sound.

Drawing from influences such as Arthur Russell, Portishead and Trentemøller, Zola Blood’s intricate arrangements were developed over a year on a Hackney Wick industrial estate, dissecting mobile phone recordings and programming synthesizers.

Keith Aspden, founder of Pond Life, suggests “it is a proud moment to announce the arrival of Zola Blood on the label and details of the imminent release of the debut EP will be revealed shortly.”
