NEWS: CHELSEA WOLFE releases new album 'She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She' on 9th Feb via Loma Vista....
The ever fascinating Chelsea Wolfe drops her new record on 9th Feb. ‘She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She’ is Wolfe’s debut for Loma Vista (St. Vincent, Soccer Mommy, Sylvan Esso) and its new single ‘Tunnel Lights’ is currently playlisted on BBC 6 Music.
There has been considerable excitement in the UK and US for the new album from likes of Clash, Dork, FADER, The Guardian, Kerrang!, Line of Best Fit, Louder, Metal Hammer, The Needle Drop, NPR, Pitchfork, SPIN and more. She’s already booked in to perform live on both BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music this spring as well, ahead of a headline show at Heaven in London.
Produced by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek and mixed by Shawn Everett (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Killers, War on Drugs), ‘She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She’ has flashes of late 90s / early 00s electronics, dark atmospherics, industrial textures, and metal; all threaded together by Chelsea's stunning voice.
The album is a rebirth in process and is about how such a moment connects to our past, our present, and our future. It’s a powerfully cathartic statement about cutting ties, as well as an important reminder that healing is cyclical and circular, and not a simple linear process. As Wolfe explains, “It’s a record about the past self reaching out to the present self reaching out to the future self to summon change, growth, and guidance. It’s a story of setting yourself free from situations and patterns that are holding you back, in order to become self-empowered. It’s an invitation to step into your authenticity.”
These sentiments come to the fore in songs like ‘Whispers In The Echo Chamber’, (“Twisting the old self into poetry / Bathing in the blood of who [she] used to be”) and on ‘House Of Self Undoing’ in which Wolfe deals with becoming sober, and reckoning with a life spent being only half-present. ‘Everything Turns Blue’ signifies self-discovery in the wake of an ending, and album closer ‘Dusk’ sees an empire burning and dissipating, and a dusk before a new dawn. Sitek’s production melts from the cavernous and smoky, to the dense and minimal, and the intimate and expansive. At its core, ‘She Reaches…’ is realizing the way forward is through, contemplating what must be cut and left behind, while also figuring out what lies ahead.
