NEWS: North East fuzz-rockers PEONY release their latest single 'MAN IL UOMO' on 2nd February....

North East-based fuzz rock duo Peony release their new single ‘Man Il Uomo’ on the 2nd of February after the first single from their upcoming album, ‘Low Low Low’, received international praise.

The duo with Ryan Gray on drums and percussion and Will Reese on guitar and vocals, the band take their influences from Queens of the Stone Age, PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, and The Pixies. Their sophomore release combines thumping percussion and heavy fuzz guitar with a sincere exploration of toxic masculinity.

Talking about the inspiration for ‘Man Il Uomo’, Peony said “’Man il Uomo’ explores the impact of malignant masculinity on the family. Modulating between sincerity and satire it explores the tension between the destructiveness and appeal of traditional masculine ideals.”

Regarding their song-writing process, Ryan and Will added “We write mostly through free play and improvisation. Often, we record a session of 2 or more hours in which we barely talk to one another and just play, then listen back to find the moments that excite us the most, and build a song or songs from there.”

A full album titled ‘Vast Animals’ is ready to go, Peony will be releasing teasers from the album throughout 2024 as well as playing all over the country ahead of a Newcastle headline show at the end of the year. They’ve already performed at most local venues supporting local artists such as Yumi and the Weather, Hannah Robinson, and Spelk.
