Beezewax are from Øreåsen in Norway. Fronted by Kenneth Ishak, lead singer of acclaimed Norwegian band Heyerdahl, Beezewax are and have always been a classic rock band. Not in the sense that they play ‘classic rock’. No, not at all. But in the sense that they were four boys that grew up together, which meant that they discovered all that life has to offer kids in the suburbs together: Girls, getting into fights, skateboarding, drinking, smashing streetlights, getting into trouble, and so on. But most importantly they discovered Dinosaur Jr., the Cure, Big Star and the Replacements together. And learned how to play in and be a band together. They are all grown men now, and prepare to release a new album later this year.

Before then, the band have unveiled their new single ‘Everyone Will Tear You Down’ which was released on May 30th via SellOut! Music.  
 

After releasing their first album in 1997 they ended up on their first UK tour. Still very young, and kind of out of place in the UK punk and hard core scene with their Dinosaur Jr. meets Buffalo Tom via Hüsker Dü style pop. But being out of place is where they thrive, and that scene became their home away from home. A scene where they earned the nicknames “the Norwegian drinking machine”, and “the Norwegian kings of emo”, with out really knowing what emo was.

Fast forward a handful of years, a few hundred shows (they never counted them) in the US, Europe and Asia with acts like The Posies, Spy Versus Spy, Cursive, Appleseed Cast and Joan as Police Woman in a crappy van you end up with a band that’s exhausted. So exhausted that when Dagbladet, one of Norway’s largest newspaper wrongly wrote that they had broken up, no one in the band come forward and said “no, we’re not”.
 
Fast forward to 2012 the band somehow found them selves together in studio again with the main objective of making a record that sounds both great and fun. Doing stuff the fun way, not the correct way. With the philosophy of making it sound like one of the many cassette tapes that were stuffed with their musical heroes in their youth.

What you’ve got is classic Beezewax. Highly energetic songs that takes a dive into early heroes like Dinosaur Jr, Hüsker Dü and Lemonheads, but filtered through fun filled filters of contemporary artists like Phoenix and Peter Björn and John.

The album is produced by lead singer Kenneth Ishak in his studio in Oslo, with mixing help from Jorge Elbrecht (Ariel Pink, Violens) in New York.
