RELEASE: MOTHER VULTURE embraces the darkness with raw and intense new single ‘Slow Down’
Mother Vulture's latest track, Slow Down, (out Thursday 30 January 2025) is a visceral sonic journey that delves into the depths of the human psyche. This new release presents the band at their heaviest, with octave-fuzz-laden riffs and raw, feverish energy. It’s a musical manifestation of anxiety and self-destructive tendencies, capturing the experience of wrestling with inner demons.
Vocalist Georgi Valentine Ivanov’s powerful lyrics explore the darker side of human emotions, shining a light on the temptation to flirt with self-destruction. As Ivanov poignantly puts it, “Because the world gets too much sometimes, and you think something has to break.” This exploration of heavier themes, both musically and lyrically, marks a more mature direction for the band compared to their debut album, Mother Knows Best.
The track retains the outrageous and theatrical vocal performances that fans have come to love, but pairs them with more introspective and honest lyricism. The thick, pedal-heavy guitar tones and grander melodic sections, full of vocal layering and echoey psychedelic guitar leads, create an intense and immersive listening experience.
A standout line, “Life gave me lemons, I squeezed them in my eye,” encapsulates the track’s raw and unfiltered approach to dealing with life's struggles. This track is a testament to the band's ability to evolve while staying true to their roots.
Guitarist Brodie Maguire emphasises the band's commitment to their DIY heritage, proudly stating, “We want to prove that with enough hard work, you can make it as a completely independent band. We want to push the boundaries of just how much is really possible.” This independent spirit shines through in Slow Down, reinforcing the band's dedication to their craft.
It's a must-listen for anyone seeking a raw and powerful musical experience. Catch Mother Vulture on their UK co-headline tour with Ramkot this February and supporting Bokassa in April.
Who the f*ck are Mother Vulture?
Described as “one of Britain's most exciting new noises” by Kerrang! and “The new kings of British rock music” by Distorted Sound, everyone seems to agree it’s a hard sound to put a finger on, but it's impossible to look away. The band perform almost like an early 2000s hardcore band, the ilk of The Dillinger Escape Plan or The Chariot come to mind, but play a bouncy and infectiously fun style of fuzzy riff rock, with elements of Stoner Punk, Desert Rock and even Metalcore present in the band’s melting pot of sound.
Recent years have seen the band make festival appearances at ArcTanGent, Bloodstock, Bearstone (Croatia), Leopallooza, Steelhouse and Burn it Down among others, as well as supports for the likes of Skindred, Reef, Feeder, ‘68, Steel Beans, Jamie Lenman and Bokassa.
Their debut album Mother Knows Best has been described as “An explosion of monster hooks, punkoid ferocity, psychedelic moments and modern twists” by Classic Rock and “Somewhere between Royal Blood at their fuzziest, Biffy Clyro at their heaviest and Queens of the Stone Age at their most crazed and chaotic” by Kerrang!.
Mother Vulture’s last headline tour, had multiple sold out dates, including a hometown date at Rough Trade Bristol that reached capacity in just 48 hours. Classic Rock Magazine had this to say when featuring the latest single ‘Break Me’, for their Track of the Week: “Easily one of the most physical, explosive live bands in rock today – with feet in metal, hardcore and Hives-y turbo-rock territory – Mother Vulture bottle that ferocity in the aptly titled Break Me.”
