SAM GREEN & THE MIDNIGHT HEIST DEBUT EP ‘WIDE AWAKE’ - OUT APRIL 10TH - UK TOUR - MARCH & APRIL

“His contemporary finger-picked folk songs evoke John Fahey, but also shares much in common with the multi Brit-winning Ben Howard, and wouldn’t be out of place supporting Mumford & Sons especially when reaching impressive thigh-slapping speeds on the rollicking “Miles Away”, when they turn the space into a full-on barn-dance.” - Elisa Bray, The Independent

“Combining strong melodies and a classic retro sound. Kicking out the folk blues jams!”- Sam Bonham, BBC Introducing

”…contemporary folks songs of freewheeling wisdom” - The Canteen, Bristol

“British folk rock that’s got the earthiness missing from the pop efforts we often hear.” - Supajam

”...tremendous folk riffs, big choruses and West-Country charm” - The Vintage Scribbler

It’s not always easy to label a band. Take South West England’s fastest rising troubadours for example. Not content to simply call upon Earthier acoustic British songwriting traditions, for want of a better phrase the best description of their work is quite possibly rootsfolkbluesrock, with plenty of roll.

In many ways then, Sam Green & The Midnight Heist are a group with two distinct stories to tell. Or perhaps that should be four. On the one hand, their music clearly betrays a rural heritage; tales of remote locales and solitary individuals. But then there’s also another side to the sound, perhaps darker and certainly far more blues-informed, as if the great Mississippi had burst its banks and flown East across the Atlantic. Meanwhile, the outfit are currently in preparation for both a UK tour and brand new EP, Wide Awake.

Needless to say, with output such as this SMATMH were born for the live stage, crafting tracks that are at once tender and aimed straight for the late night barroom. Comprising Samuel Green (Lap Slide, Guitar and Vocal), Matt Cooke (Drums and Percussion), Joe James (Double Bass) and James Cameron (Electric Guitar and Harmonica), it’s no wonder critical voices such as The Independent newspaper have been singing their praises, with this eclectic blend of progressive Roots Music as instantly enjoyable as it is innovative.
