As someone who has only just heard of SEA GIRLS, I was really excited about seeing them, the buzz that surrounds them on social media is massive and after hearing ‘Violet’ for the first time recently, I was impressed.

SEA GIRLS are an up and coming indie band from London and recently played the Radio 1 stage at Reading Festival. Having had their latest single ‘Violet’ named as Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record in the World’ on BBC Radio 1, you won’t be surprised when I tell you that, from the moment the doors opened, I knew we were in for one hell of a show! It was obvious that they have already garnered a loyal fan base and by the looks on the faces of people pouring through the doors, they were as excited as me to see them perform.

Opening the evening was a Liverpool based rock trio THE MYSTERINES, it was an amazing set, full of energy that really got the room ready for the main act. The lead singer Lia Metcalfe had an amazing voice which really shone through as they played songs covering topics such as love and empowerment. 

It was time for the main act, as SEA GIRLS took to the stage. I was almost deafened by the screams of the girls behind me (maybe there were some male screams too). They opened up with their latest pop banger, ‘Violet’ which straight away got the Bristol Fleece dancing along in unison. The lead singer Henry was keen to participate with the crowd as he climbed the barrier and jumped in to sing a couple of songs. It was great to see everyone in the crowd dancing and smiling, isn’t this what music is all about? The band played three new songs which were well received by the room.

It was a fun performance and as someone who wasn’t as dedicated as the rest of the crowd, I still found myself dancing along and singing the choruses back to them. From the atmosphere, It very much felt like a community of fans had formed already and from what I witnessed tonight, I felt that they created a real energy which you don’t see so much these days and it made me think that they are going to capture this and push it out as far and wide as possible, I for one think that this band are going to be MASSIVE.
