It's not very often that a band that shaped your musical upbringing gets back together after splitting some 21 years ago, well folks, this is EXACTLY what has happened with a legendary 4 piece indie-pop-punk band called SENSELESS THINGS.

They were big back in the day, I mean BIG, they amassed a huge loyal following that spent their dole/YTS/wages following them up and down the country and scrounging enough money to go and catch them play live wherever they were in the country. I have fond memories of seeing these guys perform at the Reading Festival and on a few tours of the UK in the very early 90's and believe it or not, I find it hard to think of a band that have captured the essence of what these guys did so many years ago.

So, I found out recently that the original lineup of Mark Keds (Vocals/Guitar), Ben Harding (Guitar), Morgan Nicholls (Bass Guitar) and Cass Browne (Drums) were reforming for a one-off show in London in March 2017, I just HAD to get involved in any way that I could, so, with the assistance of Pete Cole, I set about creating a timeline of events that I hope you'll enjoy reading and watching. 

Wild Division formed in the early 80's in Twickenham formed by Mark Keds & Morgan Nicholls. 

Cass Browne joined and they then became The Psychotics

The first Senseless Things show took place at The Clarendon in Hammersmith in October 1986

The full Senseless Things lineup was created in the Summer of 1987 with Morgan Nicholls on bass, Ben Harding on guitar/vocals, Cass Browne on drums and Mark Keds on vocals/guitar

The band's first releases were singles given away with issues of 'Jo Yo Yo' and 'Sniffin Rock' fanzines. 

They released the Up and Coming 12" in 1988 followed by "Girlfriend" in 1989 both on the Way Cool label

Their debut album Postcard CV was released in 1989, packing in 10 tracks into just 22 minutes

"Too Much Kissing" was released as the first single from Postcard CV and has gone on to become their signature track.

In 1990, they signed to What Goes on Records which collapsed soon after....

They then signed to Vinyl Solution which was a subsidiary of Decoy Records who put out the Is It Too Late? EP and later released the Can't Do Anything EP.

The band signed to Epic Records at the start of 1991. They released their 2nd long player The First of Too Many, spawning the single "Got it at the Delmar" which entered the Top 50 of the UK Singles chart. This was followed by "Easy to Smile", “Everybody’s Gone” and "Hold it Down", both making it into the Top 20 in 91/92.

The band went on to support indie darlings BLUR in America and visited Japan for the first time. They released their 3rd album Empire of the Senseless in 1993 and this produced 2 singles "Homophobic Asshole" which failed to chart highly owing to its name and "Primary Instinct" which although equally political, did appear more radio friendly and had slightly better commercial success.

In 1995, the band released their 4th and final album Taking Care of Business which was accompanied by two single releases "Christine Keeler" and "Something to Miss".

The band split after farewell tours of the UK and Japan.

Mark Keds very briefly became a member of The Wildhearts before forming Jolt, Trip Fontaine, The Lams, Like A Bitch and, most recently, Deadcuts. He also co-wrote The Libertines hit "Can't Stand Me Now", which took a line from the Jolt single "Hey! Kitten".

Ben Harding went on to join 3 Colours Red in their original incarnation from 1996 to 1999, before pursuing a career in public and media relations.

Morgan Nicholls joined Vent 414 with Miles Hunt from The Wonder Stuff until 1997, released the solo album Organized a few years later, then went on to play with The Streets. He is now part of Muse's touring line-up and has also played with Lily Allen and The Who.

Cass Browne went on to sing for Delakota and now drums for Gorillaz. He also briefly played with Urge Overkill and The Lams. In September 2015, he once again linked up with his former bandmate Mark Keds in Deadcuts and is now a full-time member.

The band (minus Nicholls who was performing with MUSE in China at the time) appeared at the Islington Academy in March 2007 to celebrate the life of Darren 'Wiz' Brown who sadly passed away in 2006.

The same lineup had an impromptu reunion in June 2016 where they joined fans Beach Slang in London to perform a cover of "Too Much Kissing"

In December 2017, it was announced that Senseless Things would reform for a reunion concert at the Shepherds Bush Empire on Sat 25th March 2017, tickets for the show are available HERE.
