Swiss electronic-duo TRUE are offering up their infectious electro-pop gem, 'It's Not The Wind', as a free download….
'Videos', the debut EP from Swiss duo TRUE, is to be released on 3rd March via Mouthwatering Records.
Title track 'Videos' delivers the perfect opening statement about who TRUE are and what message they want to put across. They explore the pitfalls of human nature in almost brutal detail, discussing our vulnerabilities, obsessions and difficulties in coping with the bewildering vertigo of modern life.
The duo set these complex themes to shimmering, 80s-influenced melodies, which makes for a truly unique experience. It is this curious juxtaposition which gifts the EP with the ability to both make you want to move along to its masterfully infectious melodies and reflect upon what it means to exist in today's world.
Opening with kaleidoscopic R&B tinged melodies and synth hooks, 'Videos' builds gradually with the introduction of Dani's sultry vocals and Rico's infectious drum patterns. Written mostly through free-form improvisation, the track showcases the exceptional musicianship that the pair have developed through their classical jazz training.
Recorded in the heart of Bern, TRUE describe the writing process as a form of 'musical telepathy', a way of outing the unadulterated, emotional truth that is often kept within. In fact, the group decided to name the project TRUE after realising that all the songs they penned came to life because of the honesty that had been poured into them.
Also featuring on the EP are 'Vertiko' and 'It's Not The Wind', which expand on TRUE's poppy sound fused with deeper emotional sensibility. 'Videos' has also undergone a remix by Mercury, a house music duo who have previously remixed tracks for Two Door Cinema Club and Zombie Disco Squad. The pair maintain much of the vocal line, but slice it up to create a catchy vocal loop, set against a more club-orientated beat.
Based in Bern, Mouthwatering Records is an independent record label that prides itself on releasing music from a wide range of styles with the aim of promoting exciting new talent internationally - with recent releases including Take Berlinand Tim & Puma Mimi.
Although the instrumentation of TRUE's debut EP blends live drums with old school analog synths, the sound design remains spacious, sleek and contemporary. This is music packaged for the now, but written to withstand the passage of time, making TRUE's 'Videos' one of the most curious and captivating debut releases of 2014.
