THE BAD YEARS RELEASE VIDEO FOR 'COMMON MISTAKE'....
We did a great INTRODUCING feature for The Bad years before Christmas and I've just been told that they recently released a video for their first single 'Common Mistake', here it is....
Black Book Magazine debuted the video on Dec. 16, saying:
"LA -based band the Bad Years find a few ways to keep things interesting and original in their brand new video for 'Common Mistake'......the two portray a highly polarized balance of the goods and evils of love."
The Bad Years members are Sami Akbari (aka Sami The Great) and Aaron Mort (formerly The Stone Foxes) and are based in the Thai Town neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. The Video was directed by Jacob Arden McClure.
Sami Akbari on the meaning of "Common Mistake":
"For us it’s about being hopelessly in love but going through a period of frustration and doubt. You crave change but you’re just not feeling satisfied with the time it’s taking to get there, feelings of anxiousness, fear, and love combining…the eternal relationship struggle."
Director Jacob Arden McClure on making the video:
"I was interested in the dynamics of a two person band, where the two members also happen to be in a relationship. The love and the tension that must be there... The creativity, the passion and frustration that all exist at the same time, had to be recognizable.
I wanted the video to be void of any space or backdrop, just Sami and Aaron in blackness forced to observe each other within the confines of their relationship. The whole video is representative of their internal thoughts. They stare each other down, allowing the audience only small glimpses of their emotions. Tension is visualized literally, conveyed in scenes as they pull a rope back and forth. The love that Sami feels as she is showered by flowers. The concept of 'the creative struggle' is symbolized as they wrap each other in rope. All these elements- the flowers, rope and bones- come together to represent larger ideas of love, hate, death and rebirth. The piece is a testament to the inherently human experience of being in a relationship and creating with another."
