Today (25 March 2022), Beren Olivia releases her brand new single ‘So Emotional’. This is Beren Olivia’s first release of 2022; the hotly anticipated track follows hot on the heels of 2021’s ‘Is That What You Like Now’ and ‘Early Hours of the AM’, and was written by Beren Olivia alongside her long-time collaborator Dylan Bauld (Halsey, flor) and Dan Book (5SOS, All Time Low), who both also co-produced the track.

Beren Olivia is the rising alt-pop sensation who writes with her heart on her sleeve in the most relatable way, and ‘So Emotional’ intricately captures every wave of emotion, turmoil, change and reflection, as Beren takes us through the motions of the tables turning in some of our most personal, and meaningful relationships. Channelling Beren’s biggest inspirations, ‘So Emotional’ is laced with hints of Avril Lavigne and Alanis Morissette, tied in with the energy of their contemporaries, jxdn, Yungblud and Sam Fender, which, combined with Beren’s unique sound, and gorgeous vocals, makes her one of the UK's brightest ones-to-watch.
Talking about ‘So Emotional’, Beren Olivia said, “Sometimes you’re too close to a situation to see it clearly and really understand it. That clarity will always find its way to you one way or another, it just might not be in the way you expect. That’s what happened to me during a conversation with my brother. He could see things that I couldn’t and at the time I was in denial about it, and that’s where the inspiration for ‘So Emotional’ came from.”
‘So Emotional’ was written in LA in November 2021, during Beren’s first trip back to the West Coast since the pandemic. Beren and Dylan wrote the track on the day they met in person for the first time, having worked together over Zoom and FaceTime, creating Beren’s 2021 ‘Early Hours of the AM’ debut EP.
At 23 years old and in just two years of independently releasing music has seen Beren surge from zero to nearly 7 million streams in a few singles, along with huge support at BBC Radio 1, Clash, Dork, 1883, Official Charts and streaming platforms alike. Beren’s songwriting has seen success way beyond the norm - and her authentic relatability has gained her swathes of fans who rally around her online. A former competitive swimmer, Beren is the same girl who was never able to go to a music festival (though that all changed at last year’s Reading Festival) yet drew on that sheer determination to find herself working with her heroes.
This week, Beren has been announced to perform at Victorious Festival, taking place in Portsmouth, UK this August, where she is billed alongside some of her biggest inspirations including Sam Fender and Anne Marie.
