THE TWILIGHT SAD RELEASE NEW TRACK 'LAST JANUARY'....

....taken from their upcoming album 'Nobody Wants To Be Here And Nobody Wants To Leave', out Monday 27th October on FatCat Records.

Ahead of their fourth full-length album, Nobody Wants To Be Here and Nobody Wants To Leave, seeing an October 27th release on FatCat Records, Scotland's The Twilight Sad have unveiled the album's first official single, 'Last January': a motorik, driving track that - while coming early in the album's overall arc - is a pivotal point in establishing many of the record's key motifs. It's permeated by themes of small town weirdness and romance, of intermingled relationships and close-knit ties; an undercurrent of stir-crazy coursing throughout.

Perhaps that's to be expected, though. Much of Nobody Wants To Be Here and Nobody Wants To Leavewas written back in the small Scottish town where the band first penned the songs that would go on to form their acclaimed 2007 debut album, Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters while the record was mixed by Peter Katis, who worked alongside the band on Fourteen Autumns.

Frontman James Graham says of the process: “We spent a lot of time at home when writing this new record, we got to hang out with old friends and get back to some sort of normality, which I think really helped me clear my mind and focus in on writing these new songs. I had a lot I wanted to get off my chest and I've done that with this new record.”

Working out of Mogwai's Castle of Doom, alongside Katis and live soundman Andrew Bush, the band strove to draw upon their entire recorded output to date. The result is a thrilling embodiment of everything that's made The Twilight Sad so easy to admire in the years that have passed since Fourteen Autumnsfirst built a steady head of acclaim.

“Over the eight years we've been touring, our live sound has taken on different forms, from full on noise/feedback, to a sparse, synth-led sound, to a stripped back set-up with just keys, drum machine and guitar, to playing with an orchestra, and to just an acoustic with vocal,” says guitarist Andy MacFarlane. “We wanted to try and capture all of those elements and develop them in some way to make the new record.”

'Last January', in particular, serves as a perfect musical synthesis of this mission statement.
