We chatted to a superb duo called TRUE FOXES who will be appearing at THE GREAT ESTATE FESTIVAL in Cornwall....

Ahead of the Great Estate Festival which takes place at Scorrier House in Cornwall over the Jubilee Bank Holiday Queen’s extra long Coronation thingy weekend, we chatted to a wonderful Penzance based duo called TRUE FOXES. We covered loads of topics including musical influences, their humble beginnings into the world of music and their dream festival lineup, for all of this and more, read on….

Please tell me about the band, who is in it and what you do....

Hey! We are True Foxes, a female duo from Penzance. We are cousins Amie and Chloe, Amie plays guitar and sings and Chloe plays the bass and sings harmonies. We play our own original songs as well as a range of popular covers with an acoustic twist!

When did you start your musical journey?

We started our musical journey in a caravan in South West Cornwall in 2018 before venturing out to local open mic nights in the area. In 2019 we did our first live performance as True Foxes in Penzance and have since performed at hundreds of different venues all over the UK.

You're based in Penzance, do you have to travel in order to enjoy live music?

We are from Penzance, but we travel everywhere. Both of us drive which is great, we enjoy our long commutes because we have lots of time to discover new music and sing loudly along to our favourite tunes!

What style of music do you play?

We fit into a range of genres really, but I would probably class us as pop music crossed with folk.

Who would you say are the band's musical influences?

Our all time favourite band is First Aid Kit who will be seeing live for the first time at the end of June! They have been a massive influence on us. Amie: For me, Paramore, Shania Twain and David Gray are probably my biggest musical influences.

It was Amie's birthday recently, how did you celebrate?

We had a kids birthday party in the park and played ball games!

Do you know what day/time/stage you're playing at the Great Estate Festival?

We are performing on the Main stage on Friday 3rd June from 1.15-2.15pm

What can the audience expect from your live show?

We will be performing some brand new songs from our EP. They are chilled out tracks centred around our two-part harmonies, the perfect way to ease you into the weekend!

The bill is looking pretty good for this year, who else would you recommend the festival goers make a beeline for over the weekend?

Oh it's hard to choose just a few, there are so many great acts on! Manic Street Preachers are a must of course, but I'd say you have to check out Mad dog Mcrea and Stone Roots for some upbeat tunes and Archie Ray, Isyla and Scenic Route for some amazing acoustic sets!

There seem to be more Cornish festivals popping up all over the county these days, what is it about them that keeps people coming back year after year?

They are so quirky, you can't beat them! You get to enjoy great cider in beautiful fields or beaches with really talented local artists!

Tell me a funny story about a festival/show that you've attended in the past....

We played at a festival for dogs a couple of years ago which was just brilliant, it was called Woofstock, the audience were barking mad! Sorry, not sorry...

Give me 3 bands or artists that you would like to headline at your own festival (you can choose ANY band/artist dead or alive)

Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley and Foo Fighters, it would be a very wacky festival!

Please tell me about any new music that you have in the pipeline and when can we expect to hear it?

We will be heading back to the studio very soon to record a brand new single called 'Follow the Leader', you may have heard a sneak preview of it already as we performed it live on BBC Radio Cornwall at St Ives Food Festival. We have also started bringing other musicians in to record with us, our latest track 'Pleasure has a sting in its tail' features the amazing Bo Payne (Boundless Brothers) on drums - he really brought the energy to our track! We are hoping to record some more tracks soon with drums and may even have some electric guitar sneaking its way in!

Lastly, tell me your top three festival survival tips?

Bring your own loo roll! Take snacks to the security guards because they do long shifts and deserve all of our love! And finally, don't take anything too seriously, just have an amazing weekend!

We’d like to thank both Amie and Chloe for sparing the time to pore over our questions, I am 99% sure that they would have had FAR more important things to be doing but NO, they put their plans on hold and answered the questions so credit to them for that. If you’re already heading to The Great Estate Festival, yu can catch them live on the Main stage (this is a bit like playing THE PYRAMID STAGE at GLASTO!) on Friday 3rd June from 1.15-2.15pm, if on the other hand you AREN’T currently going, the final few tickets are available HERE
