Tussk are a UK band based in the Midlands with a melting pot of sounds, influenced by Southern Rock, Metal and Hardcore, we caught up with the guys at the Wolverhampton branch of Ladbrokes Betting Office just before the 3:30 at Chepstow and asked them some questions, here's how it rolled….

 

Summary of your band/act?  Tussk are Sean Beck on vocals, Kris Capewell and Luke Springett on guitars, Oll Connell on Drums and Matt Massey on Bass. We are based in the Midlands UK and got together in 2011. We play a blend of southern rock influenced metal mixed with hardcore. We love groovy riffs and energetic performances.

How did you come up with the band name?  It was found on a cheap deodorant can by Sean. We added the extra ‘S’ to try and differentiate. Worked out well as we played with tusk last year :)

Where did you record your new EP?  A studio in Stoke on Trent called UTC (Universal Thrift Club), really good guys, professional and awesome

Who produced it?  Same guys, everything was done in house

Tell us a fascinating fact about you or one of the band members?  

Oll  - Luke our guitarist holds the world record for the most tarmaccing in 24hrs

Matt - i'm a qualified first aider

Last time you used public transport and where did you go?  Oll - I take the train to crewe daily to work, thrilling i know.

Last time you felt proud?  

Matt - When we came off stage after supporting 36 crazyfists last year, maybe not the last time, but definitely the proudest

Kris - We're all really proud of the recording

What classic song do you wish you recorded and why?  

Matt - Freebird, but replace the guitar solo with a bass solo.

Kris - Will Smith Miami because I wish I was Will smith

Luke - Mulligan and O'hares my rose has left me, pure comedy gold

Last movie you saw?  

Oll - Hunger games 2. awesome

Matt - Erin Brokovich, you gotta love Julia Roberts

Kris - I love you man

Luke - Airplane, I watch it every night

Last book you read?  

Oll - Ringworld - although i enjoyed it, it was a little to hard sci-fi. I love that it’s in space, but i don’t need to know the theory behind space flight.

Luke - Key stage 3 science, its been a while

What did you dream about last night?  Luke - I dreamt I cried, but I realised I don't cry

Last time you were rude to someone and why?  Oll - At practice, all the time. Thats just how we work

What excites you?

Luke - Anal/blue hair

Kris - Glasses and boobs

Mat - Burgers

Biggest musical influence?  

Oll - Neal peart

Kris - Dimebag

Luke - Trent reznor and Tom Delonge

Matt - Luke and Kris

Earliest childhood memory?

Matt - I cannot remember anything as a child

Luke - being a reverse Benjamin Button

First gig you ever played?  

Oll - Tussks was at Whiston village hall charity gig although we didn't have Luke then

Luke - my first with Tussk was at the green star pub in stoke

Best band/artist of 2013?  

Oll - Tesseract

Kris - Protest the hero

Luke - Norma Jean

Matt - Pure Love

The last album/record you bought?

Oll - Kiss - Destroyer

Matt - wicked snakes - lead me to the sun

Kris - Protest the hero - voalition

Luke - Dillinger escape plan - one of us is the killer

Last time you had a fight?  

Oll - High School

Matt - yeah same

Kris - I had one with the old ball and chain last night, she battered me

Luke - I did batter him

Tell me one of your guilty pleasures?

Matt - The all female girl group Stooshe….

Luke - Anal and blue hair

Best advice you ever received and who was it from?

Luke - Oll Connell on everything

Matt - We had some great advice from Danni the promoter at the Sugarmill in Stoke on Trent, she's been really helpful and good to us.

 

The 3:30 at Chepstow started and things weren't looking good for the lads, their horses, Slippery Dick, Foxy Fanny, Muff Diver & Sofa Can Fast were not doing well. Two of them had fallen at the first hurdle, one had simply stopped to eat grass and the latter had to be shot after turning on its jockey and mauling him like a rabid dog…..we thought it would be an opportune time to lay down the quick fire questions

Coke of Pepsi?  Diet coke! but it’s far too addictive.

Mac or PC?  My Goodness, PC! I used to have a Mac in the 90’s I had Ultimate Doom on it.. they’ve not got any better at apple since then.

Holidays/Vacations – Beach or Snow?  Well.. the beach is a pain because sand just gets everywhere.. i mean everywhere.

Sunday Roast or Fry up?  Has a to be a Sunday roast, with proper gravy.

CD or Vinyl?  CD. Not a fan of all this digital music nowadays and i don’t own any vinyls to really compare

Car or Motorbike?  car
