Macclesfield alt-rock band Queen Cult drop their new single ‘Be Better’, out everywhere on 23 February, just before the start of their UK tour support with London based rock band Fort Hope.

Based in Macclesfield, Queen Cult was formed by lead vocalist and guitarist Maisie Johnson, with Brodie Carson on drums and Piers Jarvis on bass. Unapologetically queer, Queen Cult released their fierce and politically charged debut EP 'Woman That I Know' in January 2022 and a second EP, For Now Not Forever’, followed in February 2023.  A couple of stand-alone singles followed in 2023, including their first ever self-produced single, ‘Sneaky Freaque’.

Be Better’ is the start of a new musical chapter for Queen Cult. With a furious pace and punk attitude Maisie sings “I'm not chasing…Wrecking homes isn’t something that I’d casually do”. The single was co-produced by Queen Cult and Sam Bloor of Lower Lane Studios in Stoke-on-Trent, whose credits include rapidly rising rock bands Graphic Nature and Black Coast.

Speaking of the single, Maisie says, “Be Better is about the love between two friends. The realisation that platonic love can overlap and be confusing at times. Love is not linear. The song highlights the need for boundaries. We can all innocently fancy people we love, but must be careful how we navigate it.”

Queen Cult’s music has landed the band support across Spotify playlists such as New Music Friday UK, All New Rock, Rainbow, Pulp, Shockwave, Fresh Finds and Apple playlists including The New Rock, Alternative Rock and New In Rock. They have also picked up specialist plays on radio stations including BBC Radio 1, Kerrang and 6 Music.

Queen Cult continue to take the UK live scene by storm. In 2023 they did their first ever UK headline shows and performed at festivals including Bingley, Bitchfest and the inaugural WIMIN Festival, a new event in Liverpool with a focus on female-centred artists. They were also shortlisted as one of four finalists in the Manchester City Women’s Football Battle of the Bands competition which saw Queen Cult performing at the WSL game between Man City Women and Arsenal Women in the Joie Stadium on October 9th.

Queen Cult started 2024 with a sold-out show at Sapphic Sounds in London in February. In March they head out as main support for Fort Hope, playing in eight cities across the UK.

With lots more music and live shows coming in 2024, Queen Cult show no signs of slowing down, watch this space.
